Watch LiveTV Broken and Recording Broken

I have an HDHR, a PVR-250 and PVR-350 on my BE machine (32bit 9.10
mythbuntu). Today it hasn't been recording TV shows correctly. When I go
to watch LiveTV, I get a black screen and this appears in the FE logs:

2010-02-04 21:52:31.932 NVP(2), Warning: Waited too long for decoder to
pause

The BE isn't showing anything helpful. The HDHR shows that a tuner is
active, as does MythWeb. However, I get nothing on the screen. I can't get
out of the LiveTV screen unless I kill the FE process. This happens whether
I use the HDHR for input of an analog channel on the PVR cards. I'm
thinking I should do another channel scan. The reason being I try and watch
the local ABC HD channel and it was showing a PBS program. That's obviously
not right. What's strange is that this same setup was able to record Lost
just fine on Tuesday. What should I try doing from here? Thanks!

What is your source for content on that HDHR? IS it cable? Has your
cable company maybe moved the channels around (if your are using the
HDHR to capture QAM Clear channels).

I also wonder fi maybe your database maybe has some crashed tables or
related problems.
Have you checked it to make sure it's ok?

Frank,

Thanks for responding. The HDHR is hooked up to Comcast cable on both
inputs. Before I ran the channel scan, the ABC channel (19.1 which Myth
assigned all by itself) had the ABC schedule but was actually the PBS (47.1)
station. After I ran the channel scan, PBS is listed as 19.1 and is
actually PBS with the PBS schedule. 47.1 is ABC and with the ABC schedule.
ABC is supposed to be 19.1 and PBS 47.1. I guess I could go in and clear
the channel info for all tuners and start over with the digital channels
first.

I'm running MythBuntu, and I have a daily DB dump. I think it checks the
integrity of the DB first. Or are you referring to a Myth specific DB
check? Thanks for your help!

When using a digital capture device, you really need to scan for
channels before running mythfilldatabase (or before doing the "Fetch
channels from listings source"). See

Mike,

That's a good point. I bet if I ran the mythfilldb, it would have updated
the schedules for those channels. But still, the channel numbers are wrong.

It sounded to me like you somehow had channels in Myth before you
scanned. If so, you really should Delete all video sources (as in the
link) and start over.

Regarding channel numbers, they're user-editable data. When retrieving
channels properly (through a channel scan), the channel numbers are set
to the values reported in the stream. If the stream doesn't contain any
valid channel numbers, Myth makes some up, and it's up to the user to
compensate for his broadcaster's sending out garbage (i.e. edit them).

Also, if you're using Comcast, you may want to research scte65scan.

Jim,

Have you seen the scte65scan method for Comcast users? It takes a lot of
the guess work out of the channel setup process:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Comcast_Users_And_scte65scan

When you have finished, all you should need to do is delete the channels
that wont tune because they are encrypted.

So I have Deleted all Video Sources (per the link) and have started from
scratch. First of all, when doing an analog channel scan, the scan hangs.
The output of the MythBESetup shows

DTVParamHelper::toString() index out of bounds

This is referenced in this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv/+bug/452779

I was getting the same thing when I did a digital scan. The scan would
hang. So I started the scan at a higher number. The scan completed
successfully. So I go into the FE and have LiveTV start immediately into
the Guide. I can choose a station (digital or analog) and when I choose the
station, the screen goes black (but I can still see my little mouse cursor
in the corner) and xrandr runs because the TV changes it's refresh rate to
60Hz. In the FE logs, I'm getting LOTS of this:

NVP(1), Warning: Waited too long for decoder to pause

I've tried VDPAU High and VDPAU Normal. Both give the same issue. If I
kill the mythfrontend.real process and re-open MythFE. I go to LiveTV, and
it starts back in Guide. I then choose a different digital channel and the
same things happens. When LiveTV starts up, it's in the guide, and in the
preview window there is a digital channel playing(MTV2...yay). If I hit
ESCAPE, 50% of the time the video goes full screen and 50% of the time it
stays in the top right corner. If the video is full screen, it appears I
can channel up and down mostly without an issue. I just received a "Video
frame buffering failed too many times." message. What am I doing wrong
here? This is very confusing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Jim
