EDID problem

How can I keep signal on when I turn off the TV. Each time I shut down the tv
when I open it again mythtv is gone. no signal, just a blank screen.

I've copyed the EDID from the Tv to a file in
/home/mythtv/.nvidia-edid/edid.bin

Then I put some config in the xorg.conf:

Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-0"
Option "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/home/mythtv/.nvidia-edid/edid.bin"
Option "TwinView" "0"
Option "metamodes" "DFP: nvidia-auto-select +0+0"
Option "UseEvents" "True"

But obviously it doesn't work.

I'm running mythtv latest svn on FC12, Nvidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-
x86_64-190.42-pkg2.run. The card is connected to the tv via DMI/HDVI cable

What I'm I missing.

In a worst case scenario: You can't.

Ony of my previous MythFrontends had a ATI integrated chip which _only_ would activate a digital video output if something was connected there (and active) at power up. If the connection was broken, no software trick I tried would get it to reactivate the video signal. VGA and SVideo dig not suffer from this behavior tho. After about 4 months I gave up and got another MoBo.

I am NOT saying that is the case for you, but really, you should not have to "do" anything, it should just work.

Is it controled by the video card or the mobo ?

How long of a time period are we talking about?
Shut off TV 1 sec later turn back on or shut off, wait 30 mins turn back on?

Have you tried adding the below to your startup script?
/usr/bin/xset -dpms
/usr/bin/xset s off

I wonder if this might be some sort of "security". Perhaps it is checking the
"protected path" and sees an interruption of the video connection as possible
tampering? To prevent someone using an HDCP -capable monitor to get the
video working, then switching to some sort of capture device?

Just a thought.

Yes I have these two line in a startup script in .kde/Autostart/mythtv.sh

I just switch Tv off and immediately on and the video is gone
if it's controled by the card (Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT), it was working Ok
before I had to change my mobo and upgrade from FC9 to FC12. since then it's
not working anymore. My mobo is Asus P7P55D with intel i5-750. I'm using the
same xorg.conf config but I also switch to a newer nvidia driver aka
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.42

is there something that I can set in the bios or should I revert to my older
Nvidia driver.

Instead of deactivating DPMS, try removing these xset commands from
your startup script and add these lines to your xorg.conf:

Activate DPMS in your "Monitor" section:
Option "DPMS"

Add the following "ServerFlags"-section if you don't already have one
(in that case just copy-paste the four lines):
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
Option "OffTime" "0"
EndSection

I don't know if it will help in your case, but it's worth a try :)

Best Regards
Kenni Lund

FYI the line
Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M"

is not needed unless you are using TV-OUT. You are using DFP-0 which is a
DVI or HDMI connection.

I use the following settings in my xorg.conf for my HDMI connection to my
TV. Using an onboard GeForce 8300.

Option "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/etc/X11/tv-edid.bin"
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-0"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0"
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "True"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoDFBNativeResolutionCheck"
