Things links helped me resolve this after upgrading to fedora 12.

That seemed to work (the combination of blacklisting nouveau and
adding the line to the grub file; however, after adding that line, I
have an interactive prompt at startup that defaults after I wait 30
seconds (which I need to do with no keyboard in) and then I see the
same splash screen from Fedora 10 (the horizontal colored line at the
bottom getting progressively longer) as opposed to the screen I was
seeing (the tear drop filling up).

Now I have an issue with lirc, but I will post that elsewhere.
