HD PVR - Determine and Upgrade Firmware

Hi,

New to the HD-PVR, but long time Linux and Mythtv user.

I'm been searching the archives and Wiki for this information, but have not had
luck finding it.

I have what I think is a new Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR. When I attach it to my
mythbackend system, I get the following message:

Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=2040, idProduct=4902
Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: usb 2-1: Product: Hauppauge HD PVR
Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: usb 2-1: Manufacturer: AMBA
Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: usb 2-1: SerialNumber: 00A372CF
Nov 19 01:00:33 lbk kernel: hdpvr: untested firmware version 0xf, the driver might not work
Nov 19 01:00:34 lbk kernel: hdpvr: USB HD PVR device now attached to /dev/video2
Nov 19 01:00:34 lbk kernel: usbcore: registered new interface driver hdpvr

I have found recent posts that indicate firmware version 0x12 is the latest. as some people
have upgraded from 0xf to 0x12.

A couple of questions:

1) How do I relate the 0xf and 0x12 firmware versions with the hdpvr_1.5.6.0.zip listed as the latest
drivers on the Hauppauge web site. I assume the firmware is included with the drivers.

2) Is the output of /var/log/messages or dmesg the only way to determine what level of firmware is in
the box?

3) The hdpvr_1.5.6.0.zip is obviously a Windows binary. How do I install it from Linux. I remember early
posts indicating early HDPVRs had to be connected to a windows system for firmware upgrade, but
I thought that had been fixed. How do I upgrade the firmware?

Thanks,

Mike

You need to connect your HD-PVR to a windows machine to upgrade the
firmware. I don't believe there is any way.

When I updated mine, I got no feedback from the windows machine that
it was actually updated. Mine is at 0x12 in linux. How that relates
to the windows firmware numbering system, I haven't a clue.
