Upgrade question

I have two servers for web mail and mythtv, one active and one a spare.
Every time a new version of opensuse comes out I install on the spare
and swap them.

During the current swap, I want to upgrade to 0.22. I have my newly
installed machine with 0.22, and with the database, video files and
config (.mythtv directory) from the old server. From what I've read
it looks to me like I could just run mythtvsetup and the db schemas
would be updated, but I have a problem: the new machine has a
different hostname.

I wondered about using mythconverge_restore.pl --change_hostname
before running mythtvsetup, but then I'd be using the 0.22
mythtconverge_restore on a 0.21 database. Is that ok?

The other possibility is to find out what mythtvsetup calls to
upgrade the database, and call it directly, then change hostname.
Can you call the upgrade script directly?

Cheers,
Paul.

Re: Upgrade question [In reply to]

Try again with just the questions:

How do you update the database schema from 0.21 to .022, other
than running mythtvsetup? Is there a standalone script?

Would the 0.22 version of mythconverge_restore --change_hostname
successfully work on a 0.21 database?

Cheers,
Paul.

The update script is embedded in the code - there's no way of running it
standalone. Running either mythtvsetup or mythbackend will run the
update process (and mythfrontend will run it for frontend plugins).

I suspect so, though I don't know for sure. It'll certainly back up and
restore 0.21 databases so I'd think it would manage the hostname change
as well.

Yes. The mythconverg_backup.pl and mythconverg_restore.pl scripts have
absolutely no dependency on any version of MythTV. You can use them
with 0.18.1 or 0.13, should you find the need. :)

As a matter of fact, if all goes well, I'll soon be committing some new
features to the trunk versions that will likely be useful for 0.22-fixes
users, so at that point, I'll recommend even 0.22-fixes users update
their backup/restore scripts.

Mike

Thanks. All worked just fine as you predicted.

Cheers,
Paul.
