San Jose/Bay Area Comcast Users, double check your Schedules Direct lineups

Hi All,

Found today that Comcast launched *76* new HD channels in my area over
a month ago, but that while schedules direct removed the channels that
moved at that time, they didn't re-add them to their new channel
slots, nor have they added all the new channels. I lodged a ticket,
but if your lineup is similarly affected but in a different zip, you
may want to do the same.

Here's the Bay Area announcement about the new channels and
approximate rollout days:

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/comcast-brings-76-new-tv-networks-to-san-jose-santa-rosa-and-portions-of-the-east-bay-as-part-of-world-of-more-programming-rollout-2009-10-06

Here are the Zap2It listings in 95136:

http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do?method=decideFwdForLineup&zipcode=95136&setMyPreference=false&lineupId=CA04437:X

Note that all the new channels are there... just haven't found their
way to SD yet. Hopefully it gets sorted sooner than later.

Robert

I got a mailer from comcast about a month ago listing the new
channels. I believe it stated they would be available on Nov 16th.
I'm in SF, zip 94110. Perhaps they are staggering the roll out, or
they won't have their listings published until then. In any event
thanks for the heads up, I'll check if they have been added in my area
too.

Actually found a solution to it. Went to my lineups and had to re-add
them-- Schedules Direct referred to it as a "rare software bug," but I
suppose now the solution will be in the archives for anyone else.
Unfortunately doing this resets all the many channels that I had
disabled at SD, but given how I'll get 76 new ones at the same time,
the work seems worth it. :)

You lost all your customizations with the "re-add lineup"? The whole
purpose of that function is to keep them. Did you lose all or just some
of them?

The logic does the following..

1. Capture lineup
2. Delete lineup
3. Add lineup
4. remove stations found disabled in step 1.

Hi Robert,

Yeah, Re-add re-added them with every channel enabled. I've restored
the settings to more or less what they were, so no harm, no foul, but
if it helps you track down any issues, all the better.

Did a "lineup report" worked (but showed missing channels?)

If you had a channel turned off and then Tribune moved it, I can see how
it got turned on after the "re-add". Sorry it didn't work... I tried.

The report functionality showed the old lineup, without the newly added ones.

One hiccup in two years is still better performance than I've gotten
from most other subscriptions, nothing to apologize for. :)

It did in my case a few months ago when I had to do this to get a new
channel into the lineup, too.

It's not a problem for me; instead of enabling/disabling channels on
the SchedulesDirect side, I instead always a) hide channels as desired
on the mythbackend side, and b) run mythfilldatabase with
--remove-new-channels.

Whenever a new channel appears in the SchedulesDirect lineup--a pretty
rare occurrence, really--that I do want to add to MythTV I create it
manually in mythtv-setup in about 15 seconds. If my lineup were to
ever get many dozens of new channels at once as happened to you in
this case, I'd just run mythfilldatabase once without
--remove-new-channels then edit/hide them as desired.

Indeed. $20 a year for the quality of service and data we get is a
*colossal bargain*!
