Even so; yes mythrename will flog your system; especially if you have lots of recordings. mythrename deletes all the symlinks and starts again building them from info in the database. Doing this every 15 minutes is asking alot for the small number of changes you may see every 15 minutes; recommendations I have seen suggest every 6, 12 or 24 hours. In any case; from everything I have read mythtvfs is the preferred way of doing this now. you mount a mythtvfs instance on a mountpoint and creates what appear to be symlinks to your recordings. however, the downside seems to be as it uses FUSE the symlinks are not visible over samba shares but i am just starting to look at it - maybe someone can give us an idea if you can (and how) you can share them? hope that helps.
