mythdora install failure - a bug?

I tried to install from MythDora-10-x86_64-DVD.iso and I didn't get
very far, on my screen I saw:

--------
[ large blue area ]
Runing anaconda 11.4.1.62, the MythDora system installer - please
wait...
[ blank line ]
(mini-wm:1746): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :1
--------

I waited for several minutes and nothing else happened!

I also booted from MythDora-10-LiveCD-x86_64.iso and I was able to get
a desktop and run MythTV from this.

I believe that my success with the LiveCD means that there's a problem
with the install-DVD for my system.

Is this a known issue? something I did wrong? If I should file a bug,
what website should I be going to?

Thanks,

Troy.

Well, the developers that release and support the MythDora distro are
found at http://www.mythdora.com.

At the install screen press tab to see the kernel options line and add
the following to the end:
vesa nofb xdisplay=vesa

I have almost the exact same setup - with a DVICO Fusion HDTV card.
The only issue I have is that the DVICO fusion remote no longer works
(it did under MythDora 10.21.i386 on a SiS chipset ....

Assuming vesa works, then the root cause is that the nvidia graphics
chip isn't properly supported by the open source nv driver. So yeah,
install using vesa, and choose to install the nvidia binary driver,
and you should be all set.

You by chance running a 2.6.27.x kernel + lirc 0.8.5? (Which is now a
known bad combination, remedied by reverting to lirc 0.8.4a or bumping
to a 2.6.29.x kernel). Or is this some other type of remote failure?
If its something else, it'd be nice to have it reported so it can be
investigated and fixed.

Some of their users also lurk here... :)

I ran into this just last week, building a new system. I believe your
problem is your nvidia drivers.

LiveCD doesn't use them I don't think, but the installer does. However,
the spin downloaded from MythDora.com is way old (like.. january or
something) and contains old nvidia drivers.

I have a 9400M card built in - MythDora didn't work out of the box. So I
ssh'd to my box (no desktop, just text) and did a :

yum update nvidia-[stuff]. I forget the exact details, but if you :

yum list available | grep -i nvidia

There's a bunch out there which will have a higher number than what you
currently have installed. Update them, reboot and Bob should be your
uncle.

Ideally mythdora would spin a new DVD with the newer drivers in, but
they're notoriously absent in creating updated ISO's.

Steve.

I knowm, and perhaps I should have cut the quoted text to the very
last question :) But here is not the *best* place to report a bug with
a distro installation failing - that should be reported upstream.

...which is not actually mythdora.com in this case, but
bugzilla.redhat.com, product Fedora, version 10. However, its not
something that can be fixed without respinning the installer, only
worked around (xdriver=vesa). A respin is not going to happen until
the next MythDora release (for which the schedule has not yet been
determined...).

Yes I was, so I've reverted to 0.8.4a and excluded the upgrade for now
- thanks
