MyMote, iTouch, and OS 3.0

After seeing this recent thread (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/387067#387067), I wanted to try it out MyMote with my wife's iTouch. The MyMote app would not sync with the iTouch. The error said that the app required the iTouch have the OS 3.0 update, and I have not purchased the update for my wife's iTouch yet.

Is the update a requirement for MyMote? Does it sound like I did something wrong?

Essentially, I used some of the iPhone OS 3.0 mechanisms to clean up some of
the MyMote code. I also had to fix MyMote for OS 3.0 anyways, since it was
broken on the new OS. Unfortunately, any app developed against iPhone OS 3.0
will not run under any previous version of the OS.

If you want an official MyMote from the App Store, you'll need to be running
OS 3.0. There are some workarounds, however. You could jailbreak your iPod
and manually install an older version of MyMote. As an alternative, if you
really don't want to upgrade and you don't want to jailbreak your iPod, I
could manually provision an older version of MyMote for you. In either case,
please send a request to mymote.support [at] gmail

Note: I can only provision up to 100 devices, and every provision takes an
annoying amount of steps to deal with, so I would prefer not to go that
route. I understand the plight of those on OS 2.x, however, and I am willing
to help out any user to get MyMote up and running on their iPod/iPhone.

Thanks for the quick reply, Chase. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't screwing something up before I blindly went forward and updated the iTouch. Now that I understand what is happening, I will update to OS 3.0 and then should be able use the official version.

It looks like a nice piece of work and I look forward to using it.

With all due respect to MyMote and its developer, I never could get it to
work. RRGH is another option and it works great for me on OS 2.21 on an
iTouce 1G. I have no intention of upgrading to 3.0 since it really doesn't
add anything for the 1G.

If you don't upgrade to 3.0 I can't help of course, but I am still willing
to help anyone who is having issues running MyMote. I honestly want everyone
to be able to use it, so if anyone is having issues I recommend opening a
bug or emailing mymote.support [at] gmail The setup isn't the easiest thing
in the world because of all the steps required to open the frontend and
backend, but once they are set up properly MyMote should work without any
hassles.

Thanks

Is there any official documentation of the setup? I'd really like to
try it and I gave it an honest effort, but gave up after a plethora of
errors about frontend not found, backend not running, security pin not
set, keybindings not found, etc.

Yes, you can find lots of information at the support site, including a
manual and an FAQ for known issues:
http://trac2.assembla.com/mymote/wiki/Support

This is also linked to directly from within the App Store. Each app has a
support link, and MyMote's points to the above address.

Thanks

I had just the opposite problem. I could never get RRGH to work, but MyMote
works great for me. (running OS 2.2.1)

I got it up and running this weekend. Very cool app. Thanks and nice job, Chase.
