Same here. I still have 12 days worth of guide data though, so I'm not
starting to worry yet! Another casualty of the snow maybe? :-)

Robert.

Last mythfilldatabase run started on 2009-02-07 04:53 and ended on
2009-02-07 04:53. FAILED: xmltv returned error code 65280.

Please upgrade your version of XMLTV.

After checking the RT listings source files, it appears the Radio
Times have just started to add a terms of usage line to the top of
each file, which will break older versions of the grabber which only
expect "code|channel" lines to be present. Newer versions of the
grabber ignore these and let grabbing continue.

This may take some days to arrange. Do you have a work-around we can use till we
get organised? For example, can I pull channels.dat, edit off the line, then run
tv_grab_uk_rt with the edited file? How do I tell mfdb that I've done this?

Updating to 0.5.53 from 0.5.50 seems to have fixed it for me.

I do get some warnings about using an old-style config file that I don't
think was there before but everything seems to have worked OK. Back up
to 14 days of listings :-)

For all:

I added support to ignore such bad entries in the version of the
grabber that was released as part of XMLTV 0.5.52 (released
2008-07-26). XMLTV 0.5.54 was released on 2009-01-14 and is the
current stable release.

One possible work around might be to edit the tv_grab_uk_rt script
directly and set $rt_channels_uri to point to an edited local copy
(e.g. /tmp/channels.dat) of the channels.dat file.

If your distro is not providing an up-to-date version of XMLTV, you
might want to give them a gentle prod :)

The format of the config file that recent versions of the grabber use
changed a couple of releases ago. However, running a new version of
XMLTV with an old-style config file is fine - it will continue to use
the defaults the older versions of the grabber would have been using.

Hi Nick, thanks for the information - appreciated.

If I make install the new xmltv will it place the required files in the same
place as the rpm version, I am running an old mythtv version 20 on fedora 7
by the way, do I need to make any backups of config filels ??, will it just
drop in ??

Thanks

If the RPM version put the grabber files in /usr/bin, build the XMLTV
source with

perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/usr/
make
make install

*I* would remove the XMLTV RPMs first before installing from source to
ensure there are no stale files left behind. Your config file(s)
should be left untouched and should continue to work with the new
version of XMLTV.

Newer versions of the grabber rely on some perl modules that might not
be installed on your system - you will be advised of this during the
build process. They can be installed via CPAN.

It might also be possible to download the XMLTV packages for a
supported version of Fedora from atrpms.net and use those instead of
building from source. However, this is not a supported method so YMMV!

Hi Nick,

unfortunately trying to remove xmltv has a dependency on mythtv, so removing
the rpms isn't an option.

Hi Nick.

I have installed the new xmltv - but its missing out ITV-1, the others look
ok, they have new data in them.

Do I need to update a config file ??

Hi Nick,

Looks like Central.carlton.com has been removed and in it's place
central.itv1.co.uk is there, I replace the old with the new in the
configfile, /home/mythtv/.mythtv/On\ Air.xmltv, the input file to
tv_grab_uk_rt, the tv information was downloaded, but not inserted into the
database...

Is this something I can fix simply ??

Did you update the xmltvid in the database as well? (via mythweb
channel editor or via mythtv setup)

Robert.

Hi Nick.

I did that (0.5.54 on top of Ubuntu 7.10 without uninstalling first due
to interdependencies with myth). The following error occurs (after I
installed all dependencies that the above complained about):

Processing listings for 'BBC One London' (london.bbc1.bbc.co.uk)
http://xmltv.radiotimes.com/xmltv/94.dat: Can't use string ("1/1") as a
HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at /usr/share/perl5/XMLTV.pm line 1590.

Any hints?

Thx, Jan

Ideally one would rebuild xmltv on FC7 from the src.rpm. That would be
the perfect blend-in solution (packaged, built on FC7).

But Stephen seems to have gotten along with the package already - just
noting for any future similar situations with wanting to run packages
from a later release on an EOL'd one, like say any forthcoming
xmltv/mythtv package on the EOL'd F8 release. Any upcoming src.rpms for
F9-F11 will most likely still build on F8 for any souls that don;t
want to upgrade.

But the general advice is: Either do upgrade (once a year) or pick a
distro like RHEL/CentOS/SL that doesn't require to upgrade that often.

Thanks Robert,

It's been a while since I have had to touch this installation, just shows how
good it is :-)..

Good catch with the xmltvlid, I found a new channel definition added that I
then swapped to the older channel and all is well.

Thanks again to all that have helped - its good to know that there are very
knowledgeable and helpful people here when they are needed.

I would guess that your tv_grab_uk_rt grabber script is currrent, but
your XMLTV.pm library is still the old version (or you have multiple
versions installed and perl is using the wrong one). Please search for
all installation of XMLTV.pm and check their versions.

The same question was posted on the xmltv-users list almost a year ago
- they had the 0.5.49 libs installed with a newer release of the
grabber, and were seeing the exact same error. IIRC the cause of the
error is because the new grabber can store multiple star-ratings,
whilst the old versions of the library only support one.

Nick,

That was it, thanks very much!

Cheers, Jan

I am having similar problems with an FC8 system which has been upgraded
from FC4+6. I have copies of XMLTV.pm in the following directories:

/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/

Do I just delete /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/XMLTV.pm and the XMLTV
directory (ie the old ones)?

Also I did the "perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/usr/" sequence but the file
/usr/bin/tv_grab_uk_rt is dated 11/27/07 and reports version 1.121 -
does this mean the install did not work correctly?

The terminal output is at http://pastebin.ca/1331872 if that helps

TIA

paul

Answered the second question, for some reason tv_grab_uk_rt was not part
of the default install - now rectified.
