Myth screens seem "off"

OK, so I just got my 46" DLP Samsung HDTV back today (long story), and I
have it connected to my Myth box via an HDMI->DVI cable. Most of the
screens look OK, but some of them seem to have text chopped off of the
bottom and the top of them. Also, my main desktop, which is XFCE
installed via Mythbuntu 8.10, appears to have the taskbar along the top
chopped off. I can access it if I move my mouse up there and click, but
I can't see anything on it.

I have some screen captures here: http://www.ourapplecart.com/video.html
for anyone who cares to look and see what I mean. I don't know if its
an overscan thing, or if its just something that I have to deal with. I
have an nVidia GeForce 9400GT card and am using nVidia drivers 177.82.
I tried looking at the nvidia-settings, but nothing that I set in there
seems to make a difference. Also, I tried adjusting the GUI offsets on
the frontend using the "Screen Setup Wizard" option, but that didn't
make any difference either.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
Harry

yes, try the tv's own positioning controls.

You say you have just got the TV back. From service or repair?
It could be digital and/or optical overscan since this is a DLP projection
TV. Maybe they adjusted the optical overscan during service/repair?

Yeah, it was in for repair. It had power supply and color wheel
problems. I just went through the TV's menu and while I can adjust
things like color, contrast, etc., I don't see anything about overscan
or adjusting the image at all. I can set the size to either 16:9 or
4:3, but there isn't anything about adjusting the actual image. Maybe I
have to hook my DVI-> VGA cable back up and put the input to the PC
input? Or am I just in "deal with it" mode?

Thanks,
Harry

On my Sagem DLP projection TV it is possible to adjust the image size when
connected via VGA but not via DVI.
I guess you have two possibilities. Try DVI or see if XFCE allows for a
non-standard setting of the desktop size.

OK, so I just hooked my Myth box to the TV via a DVI->VGA cable (to the
TV's PC input) and it looks much better. So I guess I'll go with that
setup for now.

Thanks for the tips!
Harry
