Doing 8.10 Upgrade

The Wife should never let me near the PVR when I'm bored ... :) Seeing as its
officially released I'm upgrading my perfectly stable 8.04.1 system to 8.10.
Wish me luck :) If you don't here from me in 4 hours time I've been gutted
like a fish and fed to the cats & dogs.

For those who are interested:

- If you're not sure what version your system is at:
~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
Codename: hardy

- And if like me you don't want to upgrade via a remote gui:

sudo do-release-upgrade

will do it via a console.

Thanks, good to hear.

I got it from "Network Upgrade for Ubuntu Servers (Recommended)" found at:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

You need to have "update-manager-core" installed - was already on my mythbuntu
setup. Its text only, not even curses based. Ideal if you don't want to run up
a local or remote gui. My frontend doesn't have a mouse, so its easier to work
via the cmd line.

Still alive :)

Download took 3 hours. I overwrote all modified (by me) scripts then tweaked
them back as needed. Things went pretty smoothly with a few minor hiccups

- Good : Installs Latest nvidia drivers (177.80)

- Bad : Autogenerated xorg.conf was borked with syntax errors, I had to run
nvidia-xconfig manully. No biggie.

- Excellent : Autodetects my RealTek ALC662 card now and supports 5.1 sound
out of the box

- Expected:My php.ini failed to cater to Queensland not having DST, I had to
manually set my timezone in it (Australia/Brisbane)

Otherwise no real issues, old recordings, rules etc still preserved,

Looking excellent so far. Mytbox is in use at the moment so I can't check the
new plugins.
