top shows me mythtv and mysql and only about 1.5. It's an AMD dual-core
2.6Ghz system.

Pausing would be great too but I haven't been able to find that option
-- any direction would be appreciated.

I did try pausing live TV and then going into the guide and that seems
to work - guide is responsive like it should be. Interestingly, I think
I found a bug - when you switch channels from the guide and then hit
pause again on the new channel it indicates as being 'unpaused' even
though it was no longer paused. Pausing is possible again after that
though.

So the question is how can I get it to pause automatically if even
possible.

Thanks

Continue Playback When Embedded
This option continues TV playback when the TV window is embedded in the
upcoming program list or recorded list. The default is to pause the
recorded show when embedded.

in General Playback settings, perhaps? (I don't use LiveTV, so I have
no idea what that does.)

That was already set off which indicates it should pause but it does
nothing while viewing live TV.

Thx

Guess it doesn't apply to the OSD EPG with the EPG drawn on top of the
video (just the GUI EPG with the video window embedded in it). I told
you I know nothing about LiveTV.

Oh, and no, I don't know how/if you can disable the OSD EPG and switch
to the GUI one.

That's the setting I was thinking about. I don't use LiveTV either, so
I don't have the problem. ;)
