Re: Output from the Hauppauge HD-PVR?]

3 new non clipped HDPVR output samples.
720p at 6mbps recording rate. ~125M each.

http://www.wvcom.net/hdpvr/hdt.mpg
http://www.wvcom.net/hdpvr/bikini.mpg
http://www.wvcom.net/hdpvr/nascar.mpg

(this last one will be along shortly if its not
there when you try downloading.)

they all should play just fine with myth's internal
player and mplayer seems to work for me. vlc does not.
ymmv depending on version numbers of the player.

The third one, nascar.mpg, is now finished. Thanks for the clips,
Steve. I know a lot of people were interested in seeing them.

I'll keep them available on my account for as long as possible... as
long as I dont get near going over my allocated bandwidth, they'll stay
up. I dont see that being a problem, I should have plenty.

The links should be nice and fast, its a dedicated webhost in the US.

Ciao,

Thanks for posting/hosting these clips. I've tried 2 and they playback just
fine with my current system (21-fixes), but I don't hear any audio. Is this
expected at this point? Any solutions/suggestions out there?

I was surprised I couldn't other posts about this (although it's quite
possible I missed them)

Here's what I see in my frontend log:

install the faac library and/or build mythtv with the --enable-faac option

So, on a whim I downloaded and tried playing this on my main frontend.
I had absolutely no expectations of it actually playing as its specs
were far below what I thought I would need to play the output from the
HD-PVR. But to my total astonishment, it played flawlessly !! 'top'
reported the system running at around 97-101% during playback. Here
are the system specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
MEMORY: 2GB

Other system info:
MythTV Version : 16838
MythTV Branch : branches/release-0-21-fixes
Library API : 0.21.20080304-1
Network Protocol : 40
Options compiled in:
linux profile using_oss using_alsa using_arts using_jack using_backend
using_dbox2 using_dvb using_firewire using_frontend using_hdhomerun
using_iptv using_ivtv using_joystick_menu using_libfftw3 using_lirc
using_opengl_vsync using_opengl_video using_v4l using_x11 using_xrandr
using_xv using_xvmc using_xvmcw using_xvmc_vld using_glx_proc_addr_arb
using_bindings_perl using_bindings_python using_opengl
using_ffmpeg_threads using_libavc_5_3 using_live

This is a mythbuntu system and I haven't done anything special to it.
The only think unique about it is that it's a diskless system that
boots off of NFS mounted filesystem over a gigabit ethernet.

So am I crazy ?? I thought there was no way this would play ?

Either way, I'm now getting really excited about this. Before I
thought I'd be replacing all my frontends with 3+GHZ dual-cores,
but maybe this is enough after all ? Anyone else have any similar
success ?

Thanks!!

given an old video card that actually supports xvmc a dual 3800
should really be fine. but the right video card is essential.

I asked about this in another thread and was told and explained that
my AMD 64 X2 4200+ simply doesn't have the power to play back h.264
video.
In fact, I believe the quote was something emasculating like "woefully
inadequate". Yup. There it is:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/345697#345697
My system proves this. I could not get it to play at all. I have no
idea what magical setting I have somewhere that bogs down my system so
much that it won't play. I'm beginning to think I should reformat my
system and start all over again from scratch and see how that goes.
But thanks for the ray of hope!

What are you playing this with? I had no difficulty playing this with
my dual core 2.6 GHz Opteron 285 with and a nVidia Gforce4 card on it
with mplayer.

Hmm... I'm running CentOS 5.2 (kernel 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5) on an Athlon 64
X2 Dual Core 4200, and had absolutely *no* problems whatsoever. mplayer
version 1.0rc2-4.1.2 ran at about 80-90% within top, yielding around 52%
free. Internal player ranged from 80-103% used within top, but couldn't
get any audio out of the stream.

MythTV Version : 17429
MythTV Branch : branches/release-0-21-fixes
Library API : 0.21.20080304-1
Network Protocol : 40
Options compiled in:
linux release using_oss using_alsa using_backend using_dbox2 using_dvb

using_joystick_menu using_lirc using_v4l using_x11 using_xrandr using_xv
using_xvmc using_xvmcw using_xvmc_vld using_bindings_perl
using_bindings_python using_opengl using_ffmpeg_threads using_libavc_5_3
using_live

Video card info from lspci:

00:12.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 7050 PV /
nForce 630a (rev a2)

And no, I'm not using xvmc or any filters...

xvmc shouldn't matter because that only helps mpeg2 files.

Are you using xrandr to change resolutions to match the recording? If
not, what resolution are you using?

it's libfaad2, ffac is the encoder and wouldn't help playing back
recordings with AAC audio.

Another option would be the forthcomming HD PVR firmware which adds AC3
audio.

RandR is enabled (as per xorg.conf), though I'm using a 1920x1080[at]59.94p
modeline... I don't have myth setup to change resolutions though...

Yes, I was able to get audio working by running configure with
--enable-libfaad and recompiling mythtv.
Strange part is that configure --help doesn't show that option

What I find odd is that libfaad isn't enabled by default.
There isn't anything about it being disabled in the configure
output either (like there is for the plugins).
