I tried the same system profile. Wish it would allow shipping with no OS.
Wonder if a phone call could get that taken care of.

cheers,

Perhaps you'd be better adding to the existing thread ("New frontend
possibility?") instead of starting a new one?

My bad, I just scanned the previous email's "subject line" rather than
'contents' before posting the question :-P

Sure would be nicer for $399 without "Vista Home Basic".

I wonder how it is even legal to prevent machines being sold without Windows.
Probably some contractual agreement with MS, but it really sucks.

Comparison to the Mac Mini is obvious, and I don't see a price advantage to
the Dell at this time.

Is there an empty DIMM slot? I can see that 1GB getting cramped if your video
memory is being cut out of it.

Any remote control capability?

Not to drag up an old thread, but they're down to $359 for refurbs at
delloutlet.com. It's a shame that the X3100 graphics don't appear to be very
well supported.

Hmm, more searching brings up a thread at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=822606 where a user is using
Mythbuntu 8.04 with the X3100 video. I think with a little more RAM this box
could be a great FE/BE combo, since my current combo is a Pentium Dual-core
with similar specs.
