Xbox DVD remote

Xbox DVD remote

I managed to setup my modded Xbox Console to run as Mythtv frontend using
Xebian v1.14.

The problem that I'm having now is getting the DVD remote to work.

I haven't been able to find any updated documentation on how to get the Xbox
remote to work with MythTv

Any suggestion?

By any chance are you running the 0.21 frontend? I had 0.20.2 FE
running on my Xbox under Xebian 1.14, but since I upgraded my BE and
other FE's to 0.21, the xbox is essentially a doorstop...

I have 0.21 running on an old xbox. I upgraded to from Xebian 1.14 to Etch.
There was a thread (

discussing how to do it. Or you can try getting an E image and just FTP it
over to your box. Here is a thread talking about that:

Is it still slow as can be? In 0.20 menu navigation and timeshifting
on the xbox was just too slow to be usable. The last I saw there was
some added MythTV functionally being built into xbmc though (not via
the python addon).

The latest version of XBMC supports MythTV as one of the protocols you
can set up as a video source. It seems to work pretty well. Also, you
no longer have to get a modified version of mplayer to play NUV files
which is a big step forward.

I have XBMC and 0.21 on my xbox. Mythfrontend seems to run ok for me. This
is the only version I have ever run though, so I can't really compare it to
older versions. Navigation and stuff is a little slower than on my PC but it
functions just fine. I think I read someone else saying that things ran
faster for them. I don't use the xbox very much, so I tend to just use XBMC.
It loads almost instantly instead of having to wait a few minutes for linux
to boot. XBMC works fine for watching an occasional TV show or movie. It
doesn't have commercial skip, but you can jump through the commercials in 30
second increments. That works fine for me. I have found that I have to tell
XBMC to use mplayer instead of its default player when watching MythTV stuff
or things will be pause and skip. You have to pick mplayer everytime you
watch a show. I can't find a way to change the default player to mplayer.

How do you pick mplayer instead of the default XBMC player? I didn't
realise that was possible.

Once you have the movie selected, click the white button on the controller
or the title button on the DVD remote. It will bring up a menu. Choose the
play with... or play using... option, I don't remember exactly what it is
called. Then choose mplayer from the options. I have to do it every time I
play something. It isn't a big deal once you get in the habit but it would
be nice to be able to change it globally.

I'm using 0.21 on an etch-upgraded XBox as we speak. Menu navigation
is sluggish, but tolerable. Average < 1 sec delay for most menus,
some can be as bad as 7 to 10 seconds. However, navigating through
the list of recordings is sluggish; possibly aided by the fact that my
remote doesn't have PgUp/PgDn mapped to any keys, and I have lots of
recordings.

Also, there's about a 15 to 20 second delay when you select a
recording and it actually starts playing. Once it gets going,
everything's fine. This is not a problem for me, as long as I didn't
choose the wrong recording.

Generally don't use timeshifting, because I like the commercials to be
flagged before I start watching a recording. But there has been a few
times I watched it without any problems whatsoever.

The biggest snag for me is watching with timestretch turned on at
1.5X. You do get the occasional audio stutter, about once every 20 to
30 seconds, so I've used it a lot less than with 0.20.2. 1.4X seems
okay.
