backend fails to record back to back programs

I've recently been trying out various DVR software, hoping to replace my TIVO. I've tried both MythDora 5 and Mythbuntu 8.04. Both look promising for me. I've had a problem with both installations though. I run these on a 2.4 GHz P4 Shuttle box with a Haupaugue PVR 150. Both installations have an issue when I schedule back to back recordings. For example, last night I set it to record four 1/2 hour long back to back episodes of a show on TVLand. This morning the first and third episodes show up in the Media Library but the second and fourth do not.

Looking in the Previously Recorded section, I see the first and third episodes showing recorded and the second and fourth show manually cancelled. I did not manually cancel them...wasn't awake to do so. The log file seems to indicate they were manually cancelled too. Funny thing is when I go the the folder where the shows are stored, the files four all four episodes are there...now that I think about it, the second and fourth episodes may have been on the hard drive as liveTV recordings.

Last night's recording troubles were on Mythbuntu, but I had the same problems before with Mythdora. Just to be clear, both installations were on the same machine, but I formatted and reinstalled...so it isn't a case of different frontends connecting to a common backend. I do have the pre/post record time settings set to zero, so the recordings shouldn't overlap.

Any help with what I'm missing would be appreciated.

Thanks

And left LiveTV running all night, right?

Don't do the above--exit LiveTV when you're not watching TV.

Re: backend fails to record back to back programs [In reply to]

Thanks for the help Mike. I did leave LiveTV running all night. I'll try scheduling several back to back recordings and exit LiveTV.

I'm assuming this is a known issue I haven't come across in my readings. Are there plans to work on it? I know some people set up their PVR to record everything and then primarily watch recorded TV. I did that to some extent with Tivo...until wife and kids filled up the hard drive with Dora cartoons etc...

The family is accustomed to Tivo allowing us to watch whatever live TV it is recording. Not sure I can sell them on Myth if they can't leave LiveTV on.

Corey

Your best bet is to get another tuner card. Yeah, it'll cost you $50-ish.
But in addition to fixing your problem, you'll also get the dual tuner
functionality that you probably had with your tivo. (I'm a former DirecTivo
user myself!)

Yep.

If someone wants it fixed, tracking down the issue and submitting a
patch is probably the best approach. Few volunteers enjoy spending
their free time working on features that they don't use (and, for most
devs, LiveTV is just such a feature).

The difference is that Myth has autoexpire and you can set it to keep
only the last 2 Dora episodes or whatever...

They need to learn to watch TV on their schedule, not the network's
schedule+up-to-30... :)

ditto...
I haven't watched live TV at home for years.
I watch shows when I want to, not when the networks
decide to air them.
Even live sports... start a recording, go wash the
car, beat the dog, walk the girlfriend, etc. then sit
down and watch the game.

btw, you can watch the program currently being
recorded by selecting it from recorded programs.
