I need a 0.20 frontend rpm for fc9

My server is 0.20 and is will not be upgraded any time soon.

My frontend machine is fc8 and I kept it at 0.20 by excluding the 0.21 updates.

I am about to upgrade the frontend to fc9 but need to keep mythtv at 0.20. Are
there 0.20 packages that I can install on fc9?

<Rational>
This is due to the fact that there is no backward compatibility in MythTV so one
cannot just add a new frontend machine. The server, naturally, is updated less
frequently. In my case the server runs Debian 3.1 which works just fine (mythtv
is only one of the many services it provides) for which there are no .21 packages.
Building from source is unlikely to work due to dependency on many recent versions
of other packages that are also not available.
</Rational>

Two questions and a comment.

Why upgrade the frontend's distribution? If it is meeting your needs why
change?

I run my backend on Centos 5.1. It provides all the services for my
home, including LDAP, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, SMB/CIFS including PDC, IPP and
MythTV. I have upgraded from MythTV 0.20 to 0.21 without upgrading the
OS or any of the services.

Paul

1) The frontend is my main ws and I want to upgrade it for other reasons.

2) I understand that centos 5.1 is the current release so you probably had access
to 0.21 packages. None are available for Debian 3.1 AFAIK.

My only current option may be to find a 0.20 source rpm and build it on my _FE_.

The long term solution is, of course, to upgrade the BE (the whole server).

I pulled from backup some 0.20.2 packages for Fedora 8, which will
probably work on Fedora 9.

Re: I need a 0.20 frontend rpm for fc9 [In reply to]

Thanks. I actually need x86_64, but knowing the package names I picked them
from ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/atrpms.net/f8-x86_64/atrpms/stable

A first try brought up a long list of missing dependencies, which I will now
install from fc9 and see how it goes.

Thanks

Just a thought, you might try adding that url as a repo and using
synaptic/apt to pull the deps for you. Might not work but if it is a
true mirror it should have the needed files. If multiple versions exist,
use the force option in synaptic to pick the one you want.

Re: I need a 0.20 frontend rpm for fc9 [answer] [In reply to]

After some help from the list I managed to install frontend 0.20 on fc9. Here is what
I did:

rpm -i mythtv-themes-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
yum install arts.x86_64 arts-devel.x86_64
rpm -i libmp3lame0-3.97-16.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libmythui-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
yum install lirc-libs.x86_64
rpm -i libmyth-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libdca0-0.0.5-4.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libdca-0.0.5-4.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libmythavcodec-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libmythavformat-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libmythavutil-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libmythfreemheg-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libmythlivemedia-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
rpm -i libmythupnp-0.20.2_0-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm
yum install qt3-MySQL.x86_64
rpm -i mythtv-frontend-0.20.2-175.fc8.x86_64.rpm

I fetched all the abovementioned rpms from
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/atrpms.net/f8-x86_64/atrpms/stable/

Thanks everyone
