Commercials flagged for shows recorded on channels marked as comm free

I'm running SVN 15558 and have several channels marked as being comm free
(BBC channels in the UK).
However I've noticed recently that when myth records off the these channels
it has started to comm flag them.

Any one else seeing this bug?

Thanks,
Ash

There was a ticket submitted at http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/3823 ,
but it was closed as worksforme by Chris Pinkham. I mentioned to him
that I had seen the issue, too, and that I would look into the cause of
it. The issue seems to be hard to reproduce (potentially a race
condition) because it only happens for me on some recordings and with
seemingly no pattern (i.e. regardless of channel, content type, or
recording rule).

Don't worry about opening the ticket--until we identify the bug (rather
than the symptom), the ticket isn't helpful. It's on my TODO list,
which is what I use rather than Trac to track my in-progress projects.
I'll admit it's not the top of my list (I have a couple of new things
I'm trying to get done for possible inclusion in 0.21), but even if it's
fixed post-0.21, the fix will be backported (unlike new features ;).

However, if you have any additional information that could be useful in
determining the cause/source of the problem, this would be a perfect
place for that discussion to take place.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike. It's not really a big problem, only happened to notice it
while I was watching something from a "no commercials" channel and when the
screen faded to black the comm detection popped up.

I'll see if I can work out any form of "pattern" for when it does/doesn't
occur.

It works as designed for me. Perhaps you have an override in your
recording rule that is causing it to run commflag regardless of the
global setting?

The recording rule's "auto-flag commercials" option isn't an override.
It simply requests commflagg on those channels that have commercials. I
have it enabled on every single rule of mine.

You may be saying, "But you already admitted that you have this issue?"
That's true, but I also said that there's seemingly no pattern to when
it occurs--regardless of channel, content type, or recording rule. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Mike

The problem is that you configured your commercial free channels using
MythWeb's channel editor rather than the mythtv-setup channel editor.
MythWeb has not been updated to use the new commmethod field rather than
the deprecated commfree field. The new commmethod allows you to specify
a per-channel commercial detection method; whereas the old was a simple
boolean.

So, the answer is: don't use MythWeb to set the commfree field. Use
mythtv-setup to set the commercial detection method to "Commercial Free"
on each commercial free channel.

I do /not/ recommend this approach, but those who have used MythWeb to
set the commfree field could do something like:

UPDATE channel SET commmethod = -2 WHERE commfree = 1;

If you break your DB, don't blame me. Your problem, not mine. Backup, etc.
