Yum command for installing nVidia drivers

If my $KVER = 2.6.23.12-52.fc7, what yum command do I use to install the
nVidia drivers from ATrpms?

Until Axel builds the nvidia kernel module for that kernel, there
isn't any yum command you can use to install the nVidia drivers from
ATrpms. I don't know when that build might happen, so you can either
wait or install the drivers using nVidia's build/install mechanism.
I'd recommend waiting personally...

Axel, I absolutely appreiate your efforts. Is waiting the best path?

That depends on your kernel arch (i586, i686, x86_64, ...) and the type of
your nvidia card. Older cards need the older nvidia driver, e.g. 96.43.01,
new ones can use the 100.14.19.

For a new card with an i686 kernel:
yum install nvidia-graphics100.14.19-kmdl-2.6.23.12-52.fc7-100.14.19-92.fc7.i686

It is important not to install a i586 module on a i686 kernel or vice versa!

But the build is already a week old, why wait?

No, because the packages are up since some time now.

For a 6600GT on an AMD64, with kernel 2.6.23.12-52.fc7, which package do I
want?

I'll answer more generic so other users will be able to read this in
the archives.

There are currently three supported driver families, "latest", 71xx
and 96xx. All of them have the list of cards in their repsective
READMEs, which are part of the packages or can be read online:

http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/169.07/README/index.html
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/71.86.01/README/readme.txt
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/96.43.01/README/index.html

The 6600 cards are mentioned in the 71xx family. This is not to say
that 96xx or the latest won't work - often they do for some of the
functionality required and you don't notice any issues. So at the end
you need to just try them out all and see what works best.

Automagically got X working on my 6600GT and x86_64 kernel 2.6.23.12-52.fc7.

Looking at the atrpms.net website here
http://www.atrpms.net/dist/f7/nvidia-graphics shows
nvidia-graphics169.07-kmdl-2.6.23.8-34.fc7-169.07-94.fc7.x86_64.rpm
built on Dec 25. Is the website out of date?

Yes, it's been annouced quite often that the website lags behind the
actual contents of the repo. No one is actually really using the
website, or at least not nearly as much as the repo, so most efforts
are spend on the repo contents than the web representation.

After all you do have atrpms(-stable) always turned on in your
depsolver config, right? If not, you're out of ATrpms' support matrix
anyway ;)

Thanks for the info. I definitely have atrpms stable always turned
on, but I didn't want to risk a kernel upgrade until I was sure you
had the modules available.

I've somehow managed to not see any of the announcements about the lag
despite reading this list for 2 years now.
