MythRecipe resurrection

Hi,

I'm planning to update and enhance the old MythRecipe plugin that I have the
source to. I got the program to compile and some basic functionality is
working. But there is a lot to do!

My wife has a lot of recipes that I would like to import into Myth. This and
the fact that we like and use MythTv every day. We like to do our part and
add to MythTv. I also plan to add a web interface for MythRecipe as well. I
also would like to have MythRecipe included as an official plugin once the
development is done. I would also like to have a touch screen interface work
well with MythRecipe, because we have a couple of them, especially one in
the kitchen.

So, I have the following questions for the MythTv community:

1. Is there interest for this MythRecipe?
2. Is anyone working on this already?
3. Are there any existing MyhtRecipe users out there? What do you like
or dislike about the existing program?
4. For MythTV users, what kind of things would you want in a Recipe
program?
5. What do I need to get working for the Recipe program to be included
in the official plugins?
6. Any other comments (constructive) are welcome!

Thanks,

Kevin

1. There's interest here, I use mastercook on Windows VM. It's the only
program I've ever liked and they stopped developing it some time ago.

3. Simple listing is key of course, but I have graphics that I scan in
from magazines like Food & Wine and such. Wine Pairing section, ratings,
search by ingredient, (probably not very easy, but Nutrition info is
always nice), import from MasterCook would be great too.

6. Good luck! I'd love to test when you are ready.

MythRecipe resurrection [In reply to]

I would love to see MythRecipe resurrected. I have never used it, but I
think it would be a great addition to MythTV.

Food and TV :)

I was going to install it tonight, so I was looking for some information
when I came across this mailing list. I would love to help, but I'm not a
programmer, I could do some testing or something though.

Bill

You bet. I'd be very keen to see it working again.

The touchscreen thing is a great idea. I'm building a kitchen PC with
a touchscreen so would make sense.

Good luck!

Re: MythRecipe resurrection [In reply to]

Kevin:

This would be wonderful. I too would love to help/test. I too use
Mastercook, and would prefer to have something available through myth,
which we have in the kitchen anyway.

FYI, I have several touchscreens and my current experience with myth
on them is that while many of the myth controls respond to touch/mouse
input, the overall myth construct doesn't really anticipate a
touchscreen (just try to get out of a plugin or watching TV using a
touchscreen). What I did to work with myth on a touchscreen was
implement a KDE applet that contains left, right, up, down, enter and
esc buttons and sends these commands to myth through the command line
interface. Unfortunately, this means you have to run myth in a
window, but it's better than nothing. I'd be happy to share the code
if that would help, or see if there is some global means to provide a
touchscreen interface for myth.
