0.20 frontend and 0.18 backend

Hi all,

I have a MythTV 0.18 up and running and it's working great. In fact,
it's working so great that I do not dare to upgrade anything at all on
that box.

Getting it to run in the first place included handcompiled kernel and
writing a lirc driver and stuff.

However, on my other computer I'm running a current ubuntu system.
Would it be possible to run a newer (0.20) MythTV frontend on my other
computer and connect to my older (0.18) backend on my htpc?

Or has the protocol changed too much?

Thanks,
Magnus

Nope. It is always never possible to run FEs and BEs which are not of
the same release. (Yes, SVN can be a special case; that's where the
protocol changes actually happen...)

Man, how did you survive this long with .18 and without the schedules direct
changes?

I wouldn't recommend it. I had two different versions of Knoppmyth CDs
around the house, and used one on the FE/BE and accidently used
another on a remote FE. The remote FE could see the recordings, but
not play the them. Live TV was a no go.

Then again, if you can write your own drivers, you might possess the
skill to make it work.
