mythMusic only playing one file

I'm a new user, and I'm trying to get MythMusic set up correctly. I
installed all of the prerequisites (including the optional GL ones),
configured MythMusic, and was able to scan and browse my music
collection. MythMusic successfully detects the mp3s, allows me to add
them to a playlist, and lets me browse the playlist (displaying the
ID3 tags correctly). It's when I go to play music that everything
breaks down.

I can only play one mp3! It's the same one each time, and it plays
perfectly. I can choose another mp3 before or after it, but anything
except this one track will never play. Also, this song is the only
one where the kbps, sample rate, and channel info appears in the info
box.

Things I've tried (without success):
-disabling visualizations by setting the setting to none. Still no dice.
-playing the other files manually with mplayer. They play correctly,
and appear to be uncorrupted.
-restarting everything.
-cursing at the computer

Throughout all of this, mythfrontend and mythbackend produce no error
messages, no segfaults, nothing.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this? I can provide a trace if
someone can tell me where to set a breakpoint.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Mike DeRosa

Oh, and hats off to Isaac and the rest of the dev team for what is
one of the coolest open-source apps I've seen in a LONG while.

you aren't running mythfrontend as a background

some weird trouble with mythvideo...
