more mytharchive problems

Hi,

I've been fighting with mytharchive for weeks. This is my latest
problem. I get all the way through the process and when it tries to burn
the dvd. This is what the log viewer posts after doing DVDAuthor

burning ISO image to /dev/dvd1
ERROR: retrying to start growisisofs after reload.
-----------------------------------------------------
ERROR: failed while running growisofs
result 64512, command was: growisofs -Z /dev/dvd1 -dvd-video -V 'mythtv
burn DVD' /mytharchivetemp//work/dvd
please check the troubleshooting section of the README for ways to fix
this error.
------------------------------------------------------

so where do I find this readme file?

I'm using a single box with both front and back together running
mythbuntu 7.10

thanks,

Jeff

I think I see the problem:

ERROR: failed while running growisofs
result 64512, command was: growisofs -Z /dev/dvd1 -dvd-video -V 'mythtv
burn DVD' /mytharchivetemp//work/dvd
^^

You seem to have two slashes between directory mytharchivetemp and
work/dvd. This is most likely problem in your Mytharchive settings.
You probably have one too many slahses at the end of your temp folder
setting. Remove one and you should be good to go.

I think the extra slashes are supposed to be silently ignored by the OS.

Unfortunately I can't offer any further insight into the issue... I've
never looked at the mytharchive readme since it has always "just
worked" for me...

Assuming you told MythArchive to use the correct dvd drive then this
error is usually due to the mythtv user not having _write_ access to the
dvd device.

You can find the readme in the source directory.
http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README

There's also some info on the wiki page.

I had a problem with a bad/older drive that gave me a similar problem.
Does the ISO file exist in the archive directory?

If so then the video editing finished but bombed on the burning phase
of Mytharchive.

Re: more mytharchive problems [In reply to]

My thoughts are it is with the symbolic links to my drives. I would like
to re install mythbuntu but since the site is still down that is not an
option right now. I had tried to just install ubuntu and add mythtv.
Since my knowledge of linux is limited and the tweaks needed to get
mythtv running are high I'm not sure I want to tackle that. :(
Hopefully the mythbuntu site will return soon.

I wanted to ask if your problem is solved?
Maybe we can meet in IRC if you were not able to solve it, yet.

Lukas,

I never solved it but since getting back off vacation I've been
re-installing mythbuntu or at least trying to.

Re: more mytharchive problems (sorry for private message) [In reply to]

Lukas,

After reinstalling mythbuntu 7.10 for like the fourth time and setting
the permission for my archive directory I am again back at the growisofs
error.

This is what it says in the README:

2. The script fails with "ERROR: Failed while running growisofs." message.
164
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L164>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
165
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L165>

166
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L166>
The most likely cause of the error is insufficient file permissions on the
167
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L167>
cdrom device. Make sure the user that is running the script can both read
168
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L168>
and write to the device that you use to burn DVDs.
169
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L169>

170
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L170>
How you do that is dependent on how your distribution sets things up.
It may
171
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L171>
be sufficient to add the user to the 'cdrom' group. You may also have to
172
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L172>
relax the permissions on the device itself to allow the cdrom group
173
<http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mytharchive/README#L173>
read/write access to it.

Well that is fine if I knew how to check/modify permissions for the
cdrom device. They are not talking about the /dev/cdrom are they? I
think I know how to make sure the mythtv user is in the 'cdrom' group
but I have no idea how to relax permissions on the device itself.
Another interesting think I noticed is if I use the eject command for
dvd or cdrom it opens the door of the dvd drive, using eject cdrom1
opens the cdrom door. I don't know ubuntu well enough to understand that
or if that is normal.
