I'm sure they will if they can, they have always treated us well, but if
lawyers, accounts, administrators and other assorted "don't care about a few
computer nuts" types are involved...

The best people possible are doing the best they can, what more can you ask?

In any case, I'd think the patch involved for this may likely only affect
the code for mythfilldatabase, and creating a patched ebuild in your portage
overlay would be pretty easy. I'm already doing that in order to have the
fix for this bug I found:

http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/3681

...which, by the way, is one I'm shocked nobody else
noticed...mythfilldatabase was _always_ deleting all "Record only this
showing" schedules for the current day, even if they hadn't recorded yet.

As I recall, mythfilldatabase can read an XML file in lieu of poking
datadirect. A wrapper that pulls the XML from schedulesdirect, then feeds it
to mythfilldatabase might do the trick. Even a dirty trick, such as rename
the existing mythfilldatabase, and putting the wrapper in its place, but I
recall a config option somewhere that specifies the command that Myth spawns
to run mythfilldatabase.

I can speak at least towards the Ubuntu packages.

We're planning on doing a stable release update for at least Feisty,
possibly earlier releases.

Can you say if this service will be free or a "for a small fee" service?
There was a lot of talk about both options when the zap2it announcement was
made...

Code is not (always) rigorously tested before being committed to
trunk. The long delays between releases is to try and make sure any
problems after a commit are noticed and fixed before making the code
available to the masses.

The fix for #3681 was backported to 0.20-fixes on 2007-07-01 in r13794.

Not to mention there are people, myself included, that do not have the
hardware to run the latest and greatest.

I have been wanting to upgrade my system to the .2x branch, but at the
current time, house needs have a higher priority.

For people still running old versions of MythTV there is the
possibility that the data will be available via a standard XMLTV
grabber that can be run manually to retrieve the listings and enable
the listings to be imported into MythTV using the --file option with
mythfilldatabase.

Re: Can we get an update on the status ofSchedulesDirect.org? [In reply to]

Please make a update for at least Ubuntu Edgy also. My backend is still
running Edgy. I wont be able to upgrade it to Feisty before the schedules
direct transition either, because I'll be in Europe on business for five
weeks. Luckily (if the package is available) I'll be able to perform the
upgrade over ssh from wherever I am in the world.

Indeed. It seems like there are a lot of technical details of how the
system supposedly will work that could be disclosed NOW without jeopardizing
the legal aspects of the deal.

I suspect that the exact features and plan breakdown will depend heavily
on legal. Certainly anything to do with extra features that are
available for a fee such as number of days of listings and the amount of
data provided above and beyond the basics of title, subtitle and
description. I anticipate that there will be 2 or more levels of
service. One basic 7 day plan for free and a 14 day plan with info like
producer, actors, previous air dates, etc.... Maybe even limit the free
service to 3 days and have 7 and 14 day services. Yes I know there are a
bunch of cheap skates out there that want something for nothing and a 3
day listing would be perfect for their use. And the pay for listings
feature is a perfect way for the devs to make money on this project
without appearing to be making it from an open source package.
