ATSC channel scan broken in mythtvsetup?

I scanned for OTA HDTV channels in mythtvsetup and it picks up all the
channels, but If I go to watch them after mythfilldatabase I get the
"no channel lock press ok" error. I discovered that if I manually
create the channel and add the frequency id to the second page in the
creation process it works. I tried to add the frequency id to an
existing channel through the web interface, but that did not work.
Is the channel scanning broken in mythtvsetup?
Is there a way to add the appropriate data to the channel table
through an update statement without having to recreate the channels
manually?

I am afraid I am the bearer of bad news. Channel scanning is broken.
Manual entry is the way to go. Be sure to check that the dtv_transport
table has the correct frequency and that the channels table has the
correct dtv_transport number and data stream number listed in the
record. To make sure that you can get update info from your listing
provider make sure the xmltvid number and callsign exactly match that
given in the listings.

I would love to get my avermedia 180 HD up and running, but I have no
idea how to find out the frequencies off of my cable setup. Does
anybody know of a howto on getting this to work correctly?

Kim

I do not know that specific unit but your manufacturer should have a
scan utility which will report back the detected channels. Thats a good
place to start.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "cable setup".

When did it break? I did a scan for QAM channels just a couple weeks ago
using SVN head and it worked fine.

Ok. Can I get some clarification? I have this from dvbscan....

KABC-DT:707028615:8VSB:49:52:1

I know what the first 3 are, but which ones are dtv_transport number
and the data_stream number?

Biting the bullet and recreating my capture cards from scratch in cas
ethat had something to do with my previously reported sporadic problems, I
ran into this very same problem.

I thought it was me!

But, I too found that if I manually entered the frequencies used for ATSC
using the transport editor and then doing a rescan of just previously
defined transports, the mux data was decoded reliably. Incidentally, if
you do a dmesg out in a shell, you'll see a bunch of invalid modulation
method error messages being logged by the system.

Anyway, I grabbed the dvb-atsc-tools-1.0.6 source code from the downloads
section of the pcHDTV support site and found that its "dtvscan" program
worked flawlessly. Although the channels.conf file format can't be parsed
correctly by myth, the second field in that file it creates is the
frequency value in Hertz that you can then enter into the myth transport
editor.

Convoluted and complicated, yes, but it seems to work.
