Problems with PVR-500 - Massive instability?

Title says it all...I just got my hands on a PVR-500, pu`t it into my box
and
I've had problems with it ever since...

A bit of background - the box is running SuSE 10.2, with the latest version
of ivtv (0.10.3) and the latest firmware along with the most recent MythTV
(from
RPMs). It's an Athlon64 with a gig of RAM. I could understand if it was
only
MythTV that went down, but when I try to use the card, the ENTIRE SYSTEM
locks up, and I need a restart to save it.

The PVR-500 I have uses the Philips tuner, so it's not a problem with the
tuner. (or at
least, the type of tuner in use). I thought the problem may stem from too
much
dust in the system, but I've cleaned it out and everything's running okay
there. Originally,
I had a PVR-350 alongside the 500, but I pulled it out for debugging the
problem. The
PVR-350 works fine, with no problems. I've tried changing slots as well, to
no avail.
ivtv startup is posted below.

Any ideas? I realize this isn't specifically a Myth problem, but I was
hoping someone could
point me in the right direction (and yes, I am sending this out to
ivtv-users as well).

Thanks!

- Chris

Maybe your power supply isn't enough to drive the dual-tuner card?

According to the Power Supply Calculator here -

http://www.journeysystems.com/?powercalc

I only need around 263 watts (this assumes about 5 watts/card). I've got
a 450 watt power supply, so even if the card used 50 watts/card, I still
should be
in good shape.

I read somewhere about VIA chipsets and the PVR-500...Maybe this is part of
the problem?

Pay careful attention to the second paragraph of that link. It makes
some good points.

I love it when I see ad for something like "600 watt power supply: $12.95".

You get what you pay for, and a PSU is one of the first things that
system builders will skimp on.

Possible, not as likely as a PS problem, IMHO. There were some problems
that resulted in system lockups, but I think they were primarily with
much older chipsets.

I'm curious as to how you "got your hands on it". Do you know if it
is a known good card?

If there is any option to swap it with another 500 that may be a good
route to take since your system is stable with the 350.

Re: Problems with PVR-500 - Massive instability? [In reply to]

I have a problem with my PVR-500 and it being incompatible with my abit
motherboard. Hauppauge and abit are blaming each other and neither one
has released firmware that fixes the problem yet.
