Watch TV while listening to music

I've managed to successfully get my MythTV box up and running using a
DVICO FusionHDTV Dual tuner (except for the remote, but that's
another issue).

After being suitably impressed by the ability to schedule, record and
replay programs as well as watch the wealth of digital media that I'v
accumulated there's one thing that I can't work out how to do within
MythTV.

What I would like to do is have the video from either LiveTV or a
recorded program displayed _but_ have the audio from the mythmusic
module playing.

For those asking, "Why?" I regularly watch sports (Cricket,
Australian Rules, Rugby Union) without the need for commentators.
Replacing commentators with a decent playlist would be preferable.

Is this possible with MythTV?

Cheers,
Troy

No. I think it's been asked lots of times before and it's not possible
at the moment.

The only thing I can think of is to add live TV as one of the
visualizations....

I haven't even looked at the code, and I'm not a C++ programmer, so I
have no idea if this is practical.....

ssh in from another computer, run amarok/xmms/etc and start playing
music then start the tv program.

This works quite well but requires a keyboard attached to the Myth
machine or the ability to ssh in.

Start one instance of mythfrontend and play the music. Ctrl-tab to a
new desktop and start a second mythfrontend to show
TV/video/recordings, or whatever.

I do this often during baseball season (for which I can barely wait).

This would be perfect. Along these lines having the LiveTV displayed in the
main menus in much the same way it is displayed on the schedule screen would
be nice too.

I might have to start looking in to how all these things work in MythTV..

Troy.

Even simpler, bind an unused remote button to irexec and get a script that
toggles a player of your choice on/off. I'm partial to mpd and can use the
mpc command line program to play/pause. There seems to be a bit of a "when
all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" attitude around here.
Don't get me wrong MythTV is fantastic but you don't need a GUI for playing
music.

Cheers,
Tim.

No, true, though it is nice to have. I kinda wish there was a way I
could get the remote to work with amarok when its running on that
machine and not send signals to Myth until I quit amarok. Not as much
as I wish someone would fix all the problems with mythmusic...
