nuvexport problems with transcode + slowdown...

Just installed Jan 13th version of nuvexport, ran with transcode and...
nuvexport --transcode
syntax error at /usr/local/share/nuvexport/export/transcode/VCD.pm line 107,
near "."
Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/bin/nuvexport line 52.
Cleaning up temp files.
Removing lines 52 and 88 in /usr/local/bin/nuvexport gets things running
fine. Cept I also have more problems, probably more to do with my machine
this time...
Both ffmpeg and transcode are encoding really slow (with dec/jan versions of
nuvexport). There's about 15 "Waiting for mythtranscode to set up the
fifos." then it takes forever to transcode anything (runs at about 0.2 fps).
Running debug code manually seems ok but very very slow,

It was running fine a month ago, any ideas what could be slowing it down?
I'm not running anything to slow things down, and i've not really installed
anything that would change stuff. ick why cant this stuff work for longer
than a couple months without destroying itself :o(
