need vid card with s-video, pci-x16 that "just works"

I had my ATI x300 working just fine until I upgraded the driver and now it
doesn't support xv. This renders my mythtv unwatchable.

I was thinking about getting an nvidia 6200tc card that's fanless, but I'm
not sure it is what I want? Can anybody verify that this one works? It
seems like I read that the S-Video out was a problem in linux?

I want the card to work with minimal tweaking as my Mythbox has just sat
here for months turned off because I'm frustrated with it.

Any help or suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.

All Nvidia cards with svideo out work great in xorg, try to get a 5xx0
series card, I have a 5750 PCI-E, but it has a fan, couldnt find one
without, might just change out the heatsink/fan for a heatsink only if I
could find them somewhere

Hi there,

I'm graphics card shopping myself at the moment (see [1]) and may
well end up with a nVidia.

Why do you suggest a 5000-series rather than the 6000 or 7000? These
6000- & 7000-series cards seem to be more readily available & so I
assumed they were later models. I therefore assumed longer support
for them in nVidia's binary drivers.

Assuming I was to end up with a 6000- & 7000-series card I had
thought to replace the fan (which I assumed to be the most common
factory-installed configuration) with an after-market heatsink. Maybe
this is an unreasonable hope? Do these cards produce too much heat
for that?

Stroller.

I use one of these
http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/components/msi-nx7600gt-t2d256ez
which is passively cooled, running at 1920x1080p from DVI -> HDMI 60hz
perfect picture for both sd and hdtv.

You should look for a card that is already fanless to avoid over heating problems.

I know there are Nvidia 7600 fanless solutions out there. Not sure about any thing else.

Here are two fanless Nvidias I am looking at:

nvidia 7300le:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustratingReview.asp?Item=N82E16814121009

nvidia 6200tc:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814127204

I am just glad to hear that all the nvidias are supported.

I have a 5200 that's fanless. Cheap and it works great.

IIRC, the 5000 series cards have overlay support. The 6000 and later
cards don't have the overlay support, but use textures instead. With
overlay support you get a color OSD with XVMC enabled, and maybe fewer
issues.... YMMV

I've recently installed a nvidia 7100GS (in a Fedora Core 6 system). It's a fanless low-end card, PCI x16 and has S-video out (as well as DVI and VGA). I used the drivers from the livna repo and had a working system in literally minutes (after struggling for 2 weeks with the built-in intel graphics on my Intel motherboard).

It works great for me with myth, and my C2D E6400 even seems to play back the BBC HD DVB-S stream OK.

Honestly, I haven't really noticed that big a deal with the OSD after
going from a 5200 to a 6200. What I really love is the quality of the
picture now that I can use the component out on the 6200, as opposed to
S-Video on the 5200.

Oooh! It looks like Asus' HTD models have the "HDTV out" component
dongle!

I can't find quite this model listed on Asus' UK site - I guess it
may be a US variant:
