Myth is locking soundcard and preventing full duplex operation
|
|
Having raved about the sound quality of my new RME audio card I have now tried to use it with Myth and run into a small problem which I'm not sure who to debug further. It is clearly a full duplex issue, but how and why? Basically if I record a tv show and then play it back when nothing is record, sound is OK. However, live tv gives no sound, and if I switch back to the console and attempt to fire up XMMS then it errors and says that something is blocking the sound device (no sound from XMMS). However, I can use arecord to record to a file and then use aplay to start playing back the same file simultaneously - with xawtv up this gives me a lagged tv sound. Also playing back CD's and everything else is basically fine. I previously had an Audigy in the machine and I have changed all the settings as per the Alsa setup so that everything now refers to the new RME card. It all looks right. The only clue is that the RME card has no internal mixer, so it is impossible to play back several tracks at once. I tried using aplay to send some junk to the output, then opened up xmms and hit play - nothing happened until aplay finished and then xmms burst into life (at the beginning as though it had been frozen while aplay was running). Could it be that myth is also locking the "play" channel when it is recording? Also further clue, watching live tv initially "works" (no sound), but changing channel locks up the frontend with warning "player: /dev/dsp: error setting audio output device to 44100kHz/16bits/2channel" Any ideas please?
