If are using the frontend exclusively for running mythtv I would agree with you but I would venture to guess most people who read the list are doing some level of development on the box as well. Kinda the nature of running from CVS :) My frontend only has a TV attached to it so I have to administer it remotely. KDE has a nice built-in vnc server that makes debugging a breeze. The autohiding toolbar at the bottom makes access to other windows very easy without affect myth in normal operation. The Konsole has indivdual terminals on tabs which works well for a 640x480 display. It has a lot of features that are nice. The same features could be cobbled together with a lighter weight WM but you gotta pick your battles :) -----Original Message----- From: John Kelley [mailto:john [at] kelley] Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 1:10 PM To: 'Discussion about mythtv' Subject: RE: [mythtv-users] Video Cards... What window manager are you using? Also if anyone here is, why would you run mythfrontend on top of KDE or GNOME? I can't see any advantage to using one of those (bloated) window managers over something simple like FWVM or Blackbox. - John -----Original Message----- From: mythtv-users-bounces [at] snowman [mailto:mythtv-users-bounces [at] snowman] On Behalf Of Keller, Tim Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 4:00 PM To: 'Discussion about mythtv' Subject: RE: [mythtv-users] Video Cards... Nope, only doing one at a time, either monitor or TV, but not both. The issue I was having was that I couldn't find the right sync settings so that the svideo would work for X on a TV. It'll boot fine and I'll see the POST and all that good stuff, but as soon as the X server would start I'd get the "jaggies"... I'm still having the issue of the MythTv app running behind the mythfrontend app... Same here. GeForce 2 MX. My only issue is it boots up with the TV-Out set to PAL. I'd love to be able to change that default. These cards don't easily, if at all, work with both a monitor and TV connected at the same time. I don't suppose that is your problem? -----Original Message----- From: gtgj [at] pacbell [mailto:gtgj [at] pacbell] Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 12:31 PM To: Discussion about mythtv Subject: Re: [mythtv-users] Video Cards... >>>>> On Fri, 11 Apr 2003 13:38:17 -0400, "Keller, Tim" <Tim.Keller [at] stratus> said: t> Currently I'm using a Nvidia Geforce2 MX400 with s-video outputs and t> I can't t> get it to work properly with my TV... I have this type of card. What doesn't work for you? I don't have a separate monitor hooked up and occassionally, the console driver doesn't detect the TV so I have to login blind or remotely. Once I login and start XFree86 though, it always works. I use nVIDIA's drivers (version 1.0-4349) and the entries in my XF86Config are: Section "Device" Identifier "NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX" Driver "nvidia" BusID "PCI:3:0:0" Option "RenderAccel" "true" Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M" Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV" Option "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE" # or "SVIDEO" EndSection My card has a CX25871 NTSC encoder and I use "nvtv" to set up overscanning. The default modes didn't look good but it wasn't too hard to create a custom mode. I can send you a patch for the values that worked for me if you're interested. -- Gregorio Gervasio, Jr. gtgj [at] pacbell _______________________________________________ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users [at] snowman http://lists.snowman.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users _______________________________________________ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users [at] snowman http://lists.snowman.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users _______________________________________________ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users [at] snowman http://lists.snowman.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users _______________________________________________ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users [at] snowman http://lists.snowman.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
