mac os x quicktime playback

Is there a way to just mount the recordings shared video via nfs (which
I have done) and just playback the .mpg videos with quicktime? I tried
it on my intel macbook pro and quicktime does not like the files. I will
eventually be upgrading to .20 (so I can use a packaged intel os x
mythfrontend) from .19 svn, but it has been so stable and commercial
flagging is near perfect that I have been putting it off.

I know that VLC will play the .nuv files.

Quicktime / Quicktime Player needs the MPEG2 playback component
(which doesn't come with OS X by default) to access MPEG2 content.
It's available for purchase - US$20 - at the online Apple Store, or
it's included with Final Cut and DVD Studio Pro.

Or you could use VLC...

I use mplayer for osx. There is a packaged download right at the
mplayerhq.hu website. Works great. The MPEG2 playback component
won't play AC3 audio tracks, so it's not much good for ripped DVD's
and such.
