Teething problem - duplicate channels

Hi all,

I've just set up a MythTV box with a single DVB-T card, and I can easily
say it's been one of the most rewarding home computing experiences I've
had for years. I look forward to getting my teeth stuck further in.

I have a question about the channel listing. In the mythtv-setup
channel listing, all is fine. However, if I look at it via mythweb
(much more useful imo), or indeed via the EPG, there is something odd
happening.

First in the list - all the channels that it should have picked up for
Freeview, radio included. However, xmltvid is empty, so these get
nothing in the EPG. Further on in the list are the TV channels,
duplicated from above, with xmltvid filled in, and channum set to a name
not number (e.g. "BBC ONE So" instead of 1.

I'd like to know why this might have happened, and what is the correct
set of channels to keep? Do I keep the ones with the real channums and
fill in the xmltvids manually?

The only thing that I did wrong during install was to tell tv_grab_uk_rt
to pick up all channels first time, as told /not/ to do in
http://mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Uk_xmltv!

However, I don't think it caused any problems - I killed it when I
realised what I'd done, and re-ran tv_grab_uk_rt manually (outside
myth-setup), and deleted the lines for channels I don't need, then ran
mythfillbackend again, which was much quicker. All the channels in my
EPG are correct, it's just that some are there twice, with either a real
channum or an xmltvid.

Hope I've explained this well enough.

Antony

Thats what I did, I manually entered the xmltvid's into the channels
I wanted to use and then ran mythfilldatabase.

Timeconsuming, but it worked.. and hopefully you will only need to do it once.

Great, then that's what I'll do. I'm interested to know why I had the
problem that I did though.

Also, I take it that I have to keep on top of new channels when they
come out on Freeview, and re-run the channel scan?

Yes, run a full scan of existing transports, that will pick up any new channels.

Be careful if you have changed any of the channel numbers as the
channel scanner will change them back, there might be a way to avoid
that but if there is I've not found it yet.
