Converting nuv to avi to play on windows

Hi,
I have just readed a tons of myth-dev emails regarding the conversion from
mythtv mpeg4 .nuv format to a windows like avi. Using the patched mencoder I
was able to convert the .nuv to an .avi and read it in windows and linux.
While in linux the play is smooth, in Windows often it hangs after few
seconds.
I know there the xvid development is a great (and nice) mess, but what
windows version do you use for xvid (converted by nuv format) play in
windows? Please provide a link...
