installing mythtv

Hi, I just downloaded latest mythtv version and have
all necessary packages installed from what I can tell.
After I run ./configure, I try make and I get
following error: no rule to make target
'/mkspecs/linux-g++/qmake.conf', needed by 'Makefile'.
Stop

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do now. I am running
Mandrake 9.

Re: installing mythtv [In reply to]

Also, after typing some of stuff for mythtv.sh script,
I can no longer get ssh to work properly now. I now
get following when I login to ssh:

-bash: fg: no job control

How can I fix this so that I can run commands again?

Well, you're not really reading the instructions then, are you?

Read step 9 again.

And use the FC2 instructions instead of the FC4 instructions.

The FC2 instructions use apt-get instead of yum. You should be sure to use
the instructions for the dist you are using. I would highly recommend using
FC4, since it is the latest at this point. In either case, the package
management program (yum or apt-get) will download and install MythTV and all
the dependencies. You do not need to download MythTV from www.mythtv.org.
The instructions are very explicit. Follow them to the letter and you should
be fine.

[root [at] localhos root]# yum install mythtv-0.18.1
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Base
Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Released Updates
Finding updated packages
Downloading needed headers
Cannot find a package matching mythtv-0.18.1
No actions to take

Also: if I am to use apt-get, and the FC2 instructions, where are they? And
the reason I am using FC2 and not FC4 is because FC3&4 have problems with my
SATA controller and it was too hard to fix and found a posting that FC2
worked just fine with it.

Re: Installing MythTV [In reply to]

Well I just had one of these eye opening moments, and my failure to read the
complete introduction could have saved me quite a bit of time. Well thank
you everyone who helped(the 4 people who cared to reply) and it looks like I
will be on my way, thanks again.

When I built my MythTV box, I printed out the instructions and read them
over and over as I walked through each step. If you run into issues with FC2
search the list archives. I'm pretty sure most of the issues you are likely
to encounter have been seen before. Good luck.

xmltv can be used to download channel information from various
internet providers and mythtv can import the xmltv data format.

xmltv has a tv_grab_nl flavour (look it up on Google). You'd need to
hear from someone in your country to find out if it covers the
channels you need.

tv_grab_uk_rt works very well for the UK (although it doesn't cover
every cable/satellite lineup) so I suspect you'll be fine.

The most detailed setup instructions that I know of for Myth 0.21 and the HDHomeRun are at:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HDHomeRun#head-b137a44058edd7aff95f2481a5558bc92cebdb24

It shouldn't matter that you're running OS X. If you're installing 0.22, I understand the channel scan is entirely
different but I don't have any experience with it.
