0.20 Debian packages

Hi all

Is anybody working on these? If not, I might have a go myself. A
good starting point might be the svn versions pointed out in a recent
post. They're hosted here http://home.arcor.de/scorpidnb/mythtv/

Cheers,
Al

Checking back at the above URL, it looks as if migration to 0.20 has
just been completed. I'll try to test them out and report back later
this evening.

Re: 0.20 Debian packages [In reply to]

I have had a debian directory for packages that I've updated throughout svn
that were originally based on .18.1, and then .19. I just finished
migrating the main package to 0.20, but I'm working on plugins still. This
is the problem with not having an official repo for debian packages, lots of
people make their own packages, & they are all 'slightly' different, and
built with different options. Once I finish mine up completely, I can host
them as well at my school webspace. I'm not sure if they will be better or
worse then the packages hosted here. The most ideal situation is if we can
get ahold of Matt Zimmerman, the debian maintainer for myth. See how he
wants things done, and give him each of our debian directories. Probably,
whoever's builds cleanly in an edgy-pbuilder wins I'd think. I haven't even
tried mine in pbuilder yet.

For mythtv-0.19 exists packages from Christian Marillat
(http://www.debian-multimedia.org). May be need wait for his packages?

I suspect most people who use Debian binary packages get them from
http://debian-multimedia.org/ maintained by Christian Marillat.

I have sent a few very minor mythtv debian patches to Christian in the
past and he's always been quick to reply and good about incorporating
improvements. You might consider downloading 0.19 source packages
from the debian-multimedia archive and sending patches to Christian.
(You could probably use the reportbug package to submit them.) That
would probably be better for the Debian/MythTV user community than
adding new deb archives.

Also FYI...

mdz is no longer maintaining the Debian mythtv packages:

http://dijkstra.csh.rit.edu/~mdz/debian/dists/unstable/mythtv/README
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/dev/164579?search_string=mdz;#164579

There was also a pkg-mythtv project:

http://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-mythtv/

but I don't think that group ever released any packages.

Re: 0.20 Debian packages [In reply to]

I spoke briefly with Christian an hour ago. He's started on 0.20 packages,
and has a themes package ready, but nothing else yet.

I also spoke with mdz, and found out the same that he's not maintainer
anymore. I'm going to stop assembling my 0.20 package in favor of waiting
for Christian to finish up his and just use that instead.

And for you Ubuntu people (like me) out there, I was in #ubunut-motu. Once
Christian finishes up his package, as long as its before the multiverse UVF,
we can get it in for edgy. Once its in for edgy, we can try to get it for a
backport, but that will be a little more work.

Could you please let him know about the updated plugins package that will be
available sometime tonight? Just want to make sure that goes in to any
packages.. mythweb not able to schedule shows is kind of important. =)

Is Axel also going to need to know this?
Or was the fix in pre RPM build?

He knows it. The packages he has made have not incorporated the
changes yet. He will, presumably, as soon as the /. effect has
subsided and the changes are made on the official tarballs.

Plugins are still missing, but the main mythtv packages have recently
appeared. There are binary packages for Debian Sid only, (for the
moment at least). With a small amount of tweaking (removing the xvmc
options), I was able to rebuild the packages on Debian Sarge. I'll
test them out on my xbox this evening and report back.

Cheers,
Alex

OK, so I'm a day late! I've only done very limited testing, but so
far so good. Recorded programs playback ok anyway. Christian
currently isn't hosting any updated packages for Sarge, so anybody
wanting to run 0.20 on xebian feel free to download the packages I've
built. There at www.alexfisher.me.uk/debian

Cheers,
Al

I've haven't studied the plugin packages that much yet. I have a
suspicion that myth music might be missing aac support. Have you
noticed this?

Sourcing from Chrisitan's build, AAC should be there.
