Using DVD internal crashes mythtv

Hi,

Not sure whether this is the best list to post this in or mythtv-dev, so
let me know if I need to post there instead. I'm running the latest SVN
version of mythtv, when I try to play a dvd, any dvd using the internal
dvd player, mythtv just quits. It works fine using xine, but I can't get
it to work with the internal player.

Thanks
David Petticrew

Most likely you have a missing/mismatched dependency. I have no problems
running the internal player. Make sure you have libdvdnav libdvdread and
libdvdcss plus the devel packages and that they are compatible libs from
the same repo. I had problems when I used libdvdnav from another repo

SVN integrates libdvdnav as libmythdvdnav. Libdvdnav has libdvdread as a
base (not a dependency).

I've got libdvdnav and libdvdread all from the same source and their
development packages installed. The new entries added to the log are as
follows

2006-08-31 22:38:33.486 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Playback
2006-08-31 22:38:33.487 adding: localhost as a client (events: 0)

However, I think this is more to do with restarting the mythfrontend
than it crashing. I should mention since it was unclear in my initial
report that it's only mythfrontend which quits, mythbackend keeps
running quite happily.

Yeah, my comment was more of an "external libdvdnav/libdvdread play no part"
one. libdvdnav has, at its base, libdvdread; myth SVN has libdvdnav
statically linked into libmythtv. It is not an external dependency for myth.

If you are seeing the frontend crash you should (using the ticket howto)
create a ticket, with a backtrace (if you determine it is in fact not "any
DVD" be sure to include the title of the DVD). If the frontend simply
returns to the menu (directly, without restarting the whole thing) then you
may have more checking to do.

There have been recent-ish checkins for the internal player so updating
would be on the list of things to do. You can also try changing your mpeg2
decoder to libmpeg2 (or from, depending on which you use).
