upgrade to .19 issues

hey all,

I just upgraded my system from .18 to .19. I have a dedicated backend & an
xbox frontend (xebian 1.4). Just about everything worked fine in .18, but
now that I've upgraded, fast forward and rewind work, but very poorly. When
I skip forward, it takes about 1-2 seconds to reset and start playing
again. It's really kind of a pain when I'm skipping through a commercial.
Similarly, to seek forward at any speed faster than 3x freezes the screen.
It does move ahead when I start playing at normal speed again, but I can't
see where it is at any particular time.

Has anyone else had these issues with the upgrade? I saw some older emails
on the list, but nothing pertaining to an upgrade to .19 (and I've tried all
of the suggested fixes).

Can anyone give me a direction to look? I'm going to build a second
frontend to see if it happens with that too, but it's taking some time.

thanks,
matt

Sounds like a corrupt database. I recommend running optimize_mythdb.pl
(from the contrib directory) and setting it up as a daily cron job.
Once you've run the script (and especially if it finds/fixes a corrupt
recordedmarkup table), run "mythcommflag --rebuild" on the recordings
that don't allow skipping properly.

upgrade to .19 issues [In reply to]

Hi

I think this is a xebian problem. Have you tried to use the mythfrontend
application on the mythbackend pc for testing if you got the same problem?
I have used xebian on my xbox for a while now, but I was not very pleased
with how mythfrontend was working in xebian. I have not tried to rewind or
forward in Live TV, but because the xbox has only 64 MB RAM the mythtv works
very slow. I think you have problems because the mythtv 0.19 has changed in
the way LiveTV behaves. Check out this link

Re: upgrade to .19 issues [In reply to]

Mike,

Thanks for the tip. I ran the optimize_mythdb.pl script, and it did say it
repaired/optimized just about every table in the database. I'm not too
surprised since the database is over a year old and it's never been run
before. However, the issue still exists.

I built another frontend using FC5 and it's having the same problem, so I
tend to agree that it's some type of problem on the backend.

I'll set up a cron for optimize_mythdb.pl to run daily, just because it
seems like a good idea, but I don't know that it fixed the problem that I'm
having.

Any other ideas?

thanks,
Matt

Oh sorry, I meant to ask about that. I did run it but it didn't appear to
do anything. I've since realized how the thing actually works and I'm
currently running it on some of the recordings. Is there anyway to run it
on all recordings?

thanks,
matt

$ mythcommflag --help
...
--all Re-run commercial flagging for all recorded
programs using current detection method.
...

So, with a "--rebuild --all", it should. You might also have to add a
"--force" to it.

Mike,

Thanks a lot for the help. This worked like a charm. Sorry I didn't read
thoroughly enough to start with.

Matt
