Myth Firewire Capture on Gentoo

My understanding is that firewire capture with Myth is disabled in
Gentoo. Is that true? If so, how do I change that?

Re: Myth Firewire Capture on Gentoo [In reply to]

I'm not a gentoo guy (I run from source) but simply installing the
firewire drivers allowed configure to detect the required libraries
and then enable firewire in myth. I think the ones needed were
libavc1394-0.5.0, libraw1394-1.2.0, libiec61883, and of course the
linux kernel drivers for 1394.

IIRC from when I initially installed my backend (0.17,) libiec61883 was
the stumbling block. The compilation failed when I had ieee1394 in my
use flags. I took it out of my default use flags, since I didn't really
need it there.

Subsequently that flag was removed from the ebuild. I see that it's
back in the 0.18 ebuild though, so maybe there's an ebuild for
libiec61883 and I just don't see it.

As always, ymmv :)

Yes, that seems to jive with what I remember. So, if the flag is back
in the ebuild, then I just need to get and build libiec61883 -
correct?

Attached is an ebuild for libiec61883 1.0.0, which I basically just hacked
from the libraw ebuild. While it worked the first time for me it's probably
just as likely to nuke your system from orbit for all I know.

Thanks - I'll give it a shot. Now, pardon my inexperience, but how do
I install this?

Did you guys manage to get this to work? I was able to install
everything with no errors, but I can't seem to get video. (Does
test-mpeg2 exist somewhere anymore? I didn't get it with the
libiec61883 ebuild and couldn't check to see if I was getting video
prior to trying it in Mythtv.) I was able to get this to work in FC3,
but couldn't stand it and switched back over to Gentoo.

I pulled test-mpeg2 right out of the tarball, since I didn't get it from
the ebuild either. Try different stations, only certain ones will even
put out data for me. My cable box also can show me on the diagnostics
screen (channel 999), which channels will be able to be output. It
indicates the ones that won't work are copy protected.

File a bug report and ask the ebuild maintiner to make it avalable.
They probably just missed it somehow.

I had test captures working from the command-line. But I stopped
trying to go further with this b/c I couldn't use firewire to change
the channel on the SA 3250.

Michael,

I hit that same road block as you, but I should have an IR blaster
later this evening to wrap up setting up this SA3250.

Elsewise I filed a bug requesting additional use flags to build the
test app for the ebuild

I ended-up just getting a HD3000 working in the box since the
available channels are roughly the same. Now, if I could get HBOHD
over firewire, THAT would be useful. Unofrtunately, it's blocked for
me (even though I pay for it).
