Undeletable recordings

Hi Folks

I have found a few of my earliest recordings won't delete using the menu
'Delete Forever" option.I prefer to delete this way for

recordings I am done with, rather than wait for expiry.

They disappear from the Deleted items view for a minute or so and then
reappear.

Is it ok to delete the files from the recordings folder manually?

You can, but you need to fixup the database. There is a nice script
here:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Find_orphans.py

that does the job for 0.24 and 0.25.

But you might like to first check the permissions on the files that
will not delete.

What exactly does find_orphans.py do?
I have run it in the past and it didn't seem to do anything.

It finds lists of orphaned recordings (ie in the database but no
corresponding file) and orphaned files (file exists but corresponding
db entry) and gives you a chance to delete them,

So does it output a list in terminal or create a text file?
When I ran it'I did not seem to get any response.Maybe there weren't any
orphans to report

It is entirely command line based. Are you on 0.24 or 0.25? Maybe it
doesn't work with 0.25?

Anyway your problem is likely to be ownership or permissions with the
files concerned. Fix that and you should be able to delete them in the
normal way.

I'm on 0.25.I issued the command in the F2 run dialogue with the "run in
terminal box checked ,if I remember correctly.
I will try to run it directly in terminal.

I got it to work.I had to put it in /bin before terminal would execute it.
It found the orphans ok.It couldn't delete them all until I corrected the
permissions on
the ornery ones
Cheers
