DLNA question: howto move video into recordings?

Hi there

I've just got a Panasonic Smart VIERA TV - which comes with Ethernet and
DLNA support, and with mythtv-0.25 as a backend it's great!

However, I have an issue in that the "videos" DLNA area is a
flat-listing of all videos (ie no filter options, not even directory
structure) - which means there are pages of stuff to scroll through
using the remote - yuck! The "recordings" DLNA area allows you to view
by Date, Title, Genre, etc - much more useful

So, does anyone know how to make DLNA "video" support more filter
options, or how can I link the videos back into the recording area?
myth.rebuilddatabase.pl used to be the way to do it, but now there are
warnings it's depreciated, so I'd rather do the right thing than ruin
everything ;-)

Running a different DLNA server is an option, so anyone who has solved
this that way is welcome to pipe up too :-)

Thanks!

Jason

I Use Mini-dlna to server up videos over DLNA. It supports most TVs and is
nice and easy to setup.

Thanks for that suggestion. I've given it a go and it didn't really
improve anything, but did cause all the recordings to show up as videos
- which meant I had just expanded my original problem ;-)

So does anyone know if there is a mythtv-0.25 equivalent of
myth.rebuilddatabase.pl so that I can make videos available as
recordings - so that the DLNA frontend has more sort/filtering options?

Thanks

Jason

Jason, I've been using the DLNA client on a Sony Bravia for a while
and I dont quite get your issue. Recordings show up as you suggest (by
title, date, genre etc) which is OK (not great, but certainly usable).

Videos (which mythvideo know about) show up in the folder structure I
have stored them in. I've arranged my video collection in folders by
Genre first and title second, and the DLNA client shows according to
that structure.

I guess if you just have everything in a single folder, it will be a
challenge. So maybe your simplest solution is to spend a bit of time
building a folder structure that suits you?

Of course, your Panasonic DLNA client might be different from mine, in
which case I cant help you :-)

I have one of those WD Live media players in the house and I see the same
behaviour as David; all the videos appear in the folder structure I have
them on disk and as they appear in MythVideo. Perhaps there is something
in the Panasonic DLNA client that is different? Do you have a smartphone?
You could use a DLNA client on a phone to see if you get a different
presentation of the video section there.

I tried the Windows Media player and it shows a directory option - which
my Panasonic doesn't. So it is a Panasonic client limitation - not the
backend

Hence my question about making videos looks like recordings - as the
Panasonic seems to have more options for "Recordings" than "Videos"

Jason,

I'm not sure whether this will help as I have no way of testing it myself...
