HDHomerun and EIT/EPG/MHEG

Hi Guys,

I have "just" joined the HDHomerun club and, like most, are now missing
program data. I have looked at a few options and I can't seem to get
"any" to work:

tv_grab_nz-py:

So - I believe I have few options:

1) Get tv_grab_nz-py to work
2) Setup my hdhomerun as a dvb device and supply the xml to the public
as well - or some other method to get the program data OTA
3) Find a source that has all the channels

Did I miss something ?

Have you inserted the xmltvids into your database? Go to TV Settings
in mythweb and do it there.

You really want to watch any of those channels that you don't have data for?

You may be using an old version of tv_grab_nz-py as the version I use
gets its data from:

Yip, that is the same version. If you manually download that .gz file,
have a look to see if the channels are in there, they missing :)

I might quickly re-add my tuners/everything to make 100% sure.

I think those channels without data are only available in certain
areas. The person creating the data at nzepg.org may live somewhere
where s/he doesn't have access to those channels and therefore that
data.

Do you have listing data for the main channels now?

Hi Nick,

I "do"... I have to run the tv_grab_nz-py script with --output and then
run nythfilldatabase --file ....same file as above.

I would have thought that the process is "automated" after putting
tv_grab_nz into /usr/bin and selecting it in mythtv-setup...

Am I missing something here ?

To get EPG for channels only available in your area, you will need to
run mhegepgsnoop and merge the data for those channels with the rest
of the downloaded EPG. I was doing that for ChoiceTV until it turned
up in the nzepg.org download. I run my EPG gathering in a script I
wrote for myself, and that script runs mythfilldatabase afterwards.
Then mythfilldatabase runs my modified version of tv_grab_nz.py which
gets its data from my web server where my script left the EPG data. My
mother's MythTV box also gets its EPG from that internal web server.

This is the script I used to run mhegepgsnoop and then split out the
ChoiceTV data:

I thought the whole idea behind mheg was to get 7 days....

I want to get my mythtv to work like freeview's PVR's - they can't
download EPG via the net.....has to be a way right :)

The downloaded nzepg.org data has further processing done on it, like
changing some silly naming problems, where the EPG for a new season
had a slightly different name from the previous season and did not
mach the stored rules. It is possible to do that processing for
yourself, but it increases the traffic to the sites out there that
provide the data, so it is better to just download the preprocessed
data.

OK so have you set up the script?

Try the following:

tv_grab_nz-py --configure

this will create a file ~/.xmltv/tv_grab_nz-py.conf

then this .conf file needs to be copied to ~/.mythtv/XXXX.xmltv where
XXXX is the name of the source you defined in mythtv setup. Also to be
safe copy it to ~mythtv/.mythtv/XXXX.xmltv.

Hi Nick,

Thanks - that seems to have done a trick :)

I have contacted the creators of mhegepgsnoop and I will dust off some
limited python skills and see if I can't help them make it HDHomerun
aware. Mythtv can decode mheg data, as it can display the mheg program
data...we will have to tap into this....I hope at some point there is
text...

If you hit F12 on your Mythbox, it will show the freeview EPG....wow -
look at that "I bought a freeview box" :D

I will keep the list updated as I/we make progress....deep breath !

If you're keen get the myth source and have a look at libmythfreemheg.c
or the libfreemheg sourceforge project. I've glanced at it but gave up
since it implements way more of MHEG standard than we need just for an
EPG and I'm not a C programmer anyway. Also the source for rb-download
may be interest.
