Thanks.I will try those suggestions.
I think /var/lib/mythtv/videos was the location I used.It was my post
that was in error.

I guess my other option is to use the Ubuntu + MythTV installation instead
of Mythbuntu
I still have it as a dual boot on the same box.I could strip out all the
unnecessary apps.
Would there be any downside to that?
I noticed that the Mythbuntu version uses a different theme from the
mythTV package from
the software center.

why not just copy the firmware file from the working system to the
mythbuntu system?

Progress!
In my Mythbuntu installation:
First I had another look at the error code I got here:"sh extract.sh "
It actually was telling me it could not find "zip".So I had a look in the
xfce
menu and found that there is no archive manager. So I installed 7zip.
Now these commands:" sh extract.sh" " cp *fw /lib/firmware" work.

Still have a problem though and am getting a "card not known to driver"
type message in grep dmesg | saa output.
So I will try the directions in this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11533898&postcount=454

The good news is that I booted into the Ubuntu + MythTV and did a
seat-of-the-pants set up and was able to receive live TV freeview and
radio.
I really need a good step by step set up guide.
