TV listings problem

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a repeated issue with my TV listings coming from
tv_grab_nz-py. The listings appear to be being overwritten with programs
containing a dot instead of the program name and no summary information.
The program timings remain the same. For most of the channels on which
this happens the current and next programs stay intact. This makes me
think that the problem is something to do with the over the air EIT
data. To this end I unchecked the 'useonairguide' setting for all the
channels, but this does not resolve the problem. Googling also turns up
nothing, though the problem is difficult to describe in terms of a
search query.

Running mythfilldatabase temporarily resolves the problem. Mythweb is
reporting that mythfilldatabase runs are going ahead automatically but
are not inserting any new data (even though the log says otherwise). I
suppose this could just be because I am manually running
mythfilldatabase fairly often to work around the above.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Thanks in advance,

Rob Connolly

It's definitely an over the air EIT issue. The broadcast data has dots
in it.

A little more investigation has turned up a thread on the mythtv-users
mailing list [0]. It seems that merging EIT data and XMLTV data is a
gnarly problem.

Also, the EIT entry on the MythTV wiki [1] states:

"Sometimes, EIT data is retrieved even when "useonairguide" is not
checked."

Which of course begs the question: Why?!

It looks like disabling the "Perform EIT Scan" option may do the trick.
I'll see if that works.

Cheers,

Rob

What the status page means by "no new data" seems to mean that no new
programmes were added, rather than no data was updated. And I have
seen "no new data" reported when I had only a very few new programmes
added after I ran a new update fairly soon after a previous update. So
I suspect that "no new data" may be reported when the number of new
programmes for a source is less than a small number eg 10. The logs
give the real picture of what happened.

True. I run EPG updates (from broadcast MHEG data) every hour and have
noticed that sometimes the description of a show changes but the
listings status says "mythfilldatabase ran but no new data was
inserted....". So the EPG update works but the status is incorrect
sometimes.
