DVB-S no lock when scanning channels on 12483 but 12456 is ok.

Howdy.

I'm trying to set up a friends Freeview satellite myth box but am
having trouble getting all the channels.

I've set up the capture card and LNB, then the video source using the
eit from the satellite.

I then do a channel scan on the 12456000 frequency. That works fine,
I get about 15 channels including TV3, Prime, etc.

I then do a channel scan on the 12483000 frequency. That does not
work. I get a 'No Lock' message even though the signal strength is
95% and the SNR fluctuates between half-way and full on the bar (just
like 12456000). No channels are found.

For both transponders I'm using the details found here:
http://www.mythtv.co.nz/mythtv/digital-tv/

I successfully get guide data for the channels that I find off of the
first transponder.

I've also had a look at the settings on a STB which is successfully
tuning channels from both channels. The settings that I can see
(can't find anything for FEC or Inversion) agree with what I'm using
in myth.

Any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks.

Are you sure you have it set to horizontal polarity?

Yep. And I've tried with vertical polarity, and explict 3/4 FEC, and
inversion on and off. Still no luck.

One thing I noticed was that the transports that myth automatically
created for the 12456 scans were QPSK whereas the one for the 12483
scan was AUTO. I guess it can only figure that out once it gets a
lock... I tried to manually create the transport but there is no
option for choosing the modulation.

I also scrapped all the settings right back to the capture card and
recreated everything hoping that would clear out some gremlins...
didn't seem to.

Any other advice?

Ta.

Hi, I've just had exactly the same experience trying to add a Hauppauge Nova-S to a friends working system.

If you found the problem or found a solution, can you please let me know?

Thanks

Re: DVB-S no lock when scanning channels on 12483 but 12456 is ok. [In reply to]

Hi,

I have the same problem - have had for about a year now. While scanning II have a signal of 98% and the signal/noise % bounces around and I don't get a lock.

I have even bought a second card in case the old one was broken - so now I have two Nova S Plus cards.

Did you manage to figure it out?
(I have a DSE Freeview device which can play all channels so I know it's not the dish or signal)

I am using:

Frequency : 12456000 or 12483000
Polarity : horizontal
Symbol Rate : 22500000
FEC : Auto
Inversion : Auto

Cheers,
Julius.

I've had a bad run on those cards. I finally have two that work now, but also two that didn't work, right out of the box.

Unfortunately I have an old PC so no PCI express slots. It seems like one of the few options available for what I'm doing. Might be time to throw in the towel on mythtv or spend money on a new setup.

Hi,

Ok so a new card worked (up and running in 5 mins literally). Two x DVB-S Nova S Plus almost useless - just used as remote controls now.

Lesson - don't use the Nova S Plus - even if it kinda works.

Cheers.

Apologies for the top post but this thread seems to have gone that way....

The problem was with the LNB not the card. SkyTV man came and changed
the LNB to a new one (even though Sky worked fine) and now everything
works fine.
I've had no problems with these cards or IR receivers and removes are
good quality.
