[OT] LNB's

Friend has a cheapo DVB-S stb and has just moved house. Has a new sat
dish which was installed by non sky people a few days ago. He now gets
no signal.

His old sat dish was an old sky one and I set his STB LNB settings to
Standard and the frequency to 11300.

I suspect his new LNB is different as we are getting no signal.

The LNB options are

Standard (sub setting Freq1 and 22k (on/off))

Universal (sub setting Freq 1, Freq 2 and no setting for 22k)

User (sub setting Freq1, Freq2 and 22k (on/off))

Any ideas of some common settings to try to get his sat reception
back? He is pointed to optus d1. (At least I assume the satellite
installer did that correctly).

So do I still set it up as "standard"? (as opposed to "universal" or "user")

Re: [OT] LNB's [In reply to]

10750 is the LOF for sky's twin head LNBs (the other head is pointed at
C1/D3)... many non sky installs still use 11300 LOF LNBs...

Look up the specs for the LNB, or on the LNB itself. It should be marked
there... It's unlikely, but it might be something completely different.

You might need to make a custom LNB entry, or choose one that corresponds to
your LNB offset-wise

That would involve getting on his roof without a ladder or waiting for
monday to call the installer!

His daughter wanted TV yesterday LOL.

I'll try 10750 today and call the installer tomorrow...

Interestingly the freeview antenna spec specifies 11300 for a single
LNB and 10750 for a dual.

http://www.freeviewnz.tv/images/uploads/freeview_antenna_spec_apr07.pdf

So providing the installer has read and followed the spec, it must be
one or the other.

Thanks for your help guys, I went back and changed the LNB frequency
to 10750 and it worked straight away.

I thought my job was done, but then i got "Now can you give us a hand
with this dishwasher..." But that's way too OT for anyone to want to
hear about!
