MythTV 0.22 and DVB-T channel scanning issues

I sent this to the main mythtv-users list which some people here might not
be monitoring

===

I was playing with MythBuntu 9.10 beta (which includes mythtv 0.22
pre-release) in a VM last night with a HVR-900 DVB-T tuner connected via
USB pass in. Overall performance of freeview|HD in the VM was reasonably
good, but I did have some issues setting up the channels.

I setup the DVB device as normal and created a new video source with an
empty grabber for the purposes of testing.

Then I assigned the video source to the DVB device and selected channel scan.

Under the scanner I selected full scan and New Zealand. This picked up all
3 multiplexes and the correct number of channels per multiplex, but only
loaded the HD channels (TV One, TV 2, TV 3 and freeview hd) into the
channel line up.

The only way I could get these other SD channels to load was via direct
SQL against the database. Once loaded they all tuned without issue.

So has anyone else had issues with the DVB-T channel scanner on 0.22?

Steve

Re: MythTV 0.22 and DVB-T channel scanning issues [In reply to]

Yes, I had this problem when I was playing around trying to upgrade to
0.22 around 3 or so weeks back. Same issue, though I could get all in
EXCEPT TVNZ multiplex. When I ran the mythtv-setup with the debug of
tuning (cannot remember the switch), it complained about duplicate ID's
or something in the database hence why it would not add to database. I
was upgrading from a 0.21 standard database (all optimize and checked).

I found other issues with 0.22 with playback I think (cannot remember
the exact issue) so rolled my 0.21+VDPAU and now sitting quite happy. I
was playing around with production system, so did not want spend more
time than normal on it.

Hi Steve,

I have got exactly the same problem see my thread below:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/mythtvnz/397811

I thought my problem was just not enough signal strength as i only have about 75%, all the channels play ok under me-tv, but when i start me-tv i get like 200 errors of skipped frames when it locks on to each chanel and i assumed that myth tv could not handle this so wel and boosting the signal striength would elimnate this problem, mabe i assumed wrong,

Im happy to produce logs and stuff to help fix it if needed.

Also is there any good how to for inserting channels manualy into the database that you know of?

Thanks
James

James - Thanks for the links. I'll try some debugging myself

The funny thing is the channel scanning works fine under Mythbuntu
9.04 and MythTV 0.21.

Here is the SQL I used to load the other channels

-- TVNZ Channels
INSERT INTO `channel` VALUES (1006,'1',NULL,1,'TVNZ 6','TVNZ
6','',NULL,'','',0,32768,32768,32768,32768,'Default',1,'',

INSERT INTO `channel` VALUES (1007,'1',NULL,1,'TVNZ 7','TVNZ
7','',NULL,'','',0,32768,32768,32768,32768,'Default',1,'',
1,1,1203,0,0,0,'0000-00-00 00:00:00','',-1);

I am runing 0.22 and 9.04 i havent tried 9.10 yet, but it used to work ok for me in 0.21-fixes for a while then a fix must have broken it (not sure which one) so then i upgraded to trunk (0.22) hopng that would fix it but it was still broken

Thanks

Thanks Steve,

I compiled the 0.22 source fine this morning and your tuning patch is
surely included. Another small step for mytthtvnz.

I had hoped the Paul Kendall Latm patch would be there too, but no.
And of course there's no loopfilter option in the playback settings.

In the end having configured the backend from the svn install to do the
dvb-t scan, Ithen removed it all and installed the binary version from
JYA's repos.

Actually my patch is included in 0.22 & trunk. And has been for some months!

Gosh, that's what I thought, but the front-end logs identified the audio
stream on dvb-t as mp2 and there was no audio on on these streams. Or
have I missed something on ./configure for the 0.22?

And the patch is now in JYA's 0.22-fixes repository. It is in
changeset 22839 and JYA is up to 22840. I just tried it out tuning my
new Nova TD-500 card and it found all the channels instead of just the
HD ones.

Thanks for that, Paul

I don't suppose you have a latm patch for current mplayer-trunk? I want
to compile it with with ffmpeg-mt. (For my eeepc901 netbook)

JYA has it on his repository.
You could just get it from there.
