Myth system completely broken...

Hi all,

I wasn't trying to do anything on purpose but I allowed some updates on
my system and now Myth is completely bust. I'm using JYA's release repo
on Ubuntu 9.04. I got package upgrade notifications and in a moment of
stupidity I applied them. So I tried various options to try and fix it
but without success. Now I have completely removed Myth and when I try
and reinstall it is still broken.

Something strange I notice is that libmyth-0.22-0 is listed as an
available package in Synaptic (the 0.21 one is there too) and when I try
and install mythtv package it wants to install the 0.22 library instead
of the 0.21 one. I thought this repo was still 0.21-fixes only.

When I do install everything the frontend comes up with an error saying
that it the backend and frontend are using two different protocols.

Also the database wizard (myth-database reconfigure) doesn't work
correctly. When I try entering the password it just fails and
eventually will exit when you type the password a couple of times. I
know the password is correct because I can use it to log into phpmyadmin
with it.

Anyone else having trouble?

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the concern but strangely this morning the 0.22 library is
not visible in Synaptic and I managed to reinstall Myth without any
issues, apart from the database had been upgraded to the new 0.22
version so I had to restore a backup. I think its time to set up a cron
job to back up my database on a regular basis (I remember reading it on
the myth wiki).

cheers

Is there a way to flag that updates are in process - and not to update during that period, it seems I am not alone in having been
caught during such a period?

One way that occurs to me is to check the dates of the source files, and if they are say 3 days old, then its probably ok, except
that if everyone did that....we'd be no better off!

Yeah I think I might want to remove the update manager so I don't get bugged by it all the time. So I was just caught up in an update on the repository? Normally I only upgrade packages that I'm sure aren't in JYAs repository or related to myth but I did something silly this time!

It was my fault, somehow some 0.22 packages ended up in the release
repository...

I removed them as soon someone pointed out my mistake..

Normally an upgrade shouldn't have worked as there simply would have
been conflict, you probably saw what you saw because you manually
installed the 0.22 package.

No worries. Just glad that I wasn't going mad. Considering the way you
are supporting a significant Myth user base in NZ for nothing we've not
got anything to complain about. Thanks again for all your efforts Jean.
