Jumpy video follow-up

Hi All,
I realise I didn't explain 'jumpy' verry well. I meant jumpy as in it
appears a lot of frames are missing, eg instead of a person walking
across a room, you see them at point a and then suddenly at point b.
Cheers,
Steve :)

Re: Jumpy video follow-up [In reply to]

I have had the same issue with mythbuntu - the log shows skipped video
frames, but I don't know how to go about fixing this. Sometimes the
video goes smoothly, then starts to skip - We save the position, stop
playback & then resume from the saved position & all is (sometimes) well
for a while. Our machine is a 3GHz, with 4G ram & loads of free HDD, it
has an ATI RADEON 9600 PRO card.. wonder if this is the problem?

I've had stability and numerous problems with the nvidia driver supplied
with the main branch of mythbuntu. Changing to the later driver in
hardy-proposed fixed that, may do for you...

Have you tried playing captured videos on another PC to confirm if it is a
capture or playback issue?

Re: Jumpy video follow-up [In reply to]

Problem solved. :) After a couple of you talked about graphics cards, I
asked on IRC whether mythbuntu had any propriety drivers for ATI
graphics cards available. It turns out they do and now that I've
installed them everything's working fine. :) Thank you all for your
help, you are the ones who made me think about the graphics card
instead of the encoder.

I may have some questions soon about improving picture quality a
little, but that's a minor issue. Over all I'm very happy with mythtv
and my tuner card, it feels great to be a fully fetched member of the
mythtv community. :)

Cheers,
Steve
